I watched this weeks episode, and I wanted to smack the same two people as Peaby. Christina's dad needs a whuppin.' Hopefully, this experience will be a humbling one for him, if not during the Race, then at least when he sees himself.

When your grandfather says he can do a road block, and you know that the strongest team member can't do all the road blocks, you let him do what he thinks he can.

Remember there are rules about how many roadblocks one team member can perform. In previous seasons they have described these rules during the show.

After watching the other teams, gramps said he could do it, and he did. He just made a mess of it, but stratgically this was a good decision. It was probably a good decision in terms of the internal dynamics of the team as both team members want to demonstrate they can add value to the effort.

That is how I saw it. I think that to insist he not do it, would have made the grandfather feel really bad and messed up the dynamics.

I was really glad when he was able to get across though.

Interesting how we can watch the same show and come away with different impressions.

I saw a kid that didn't want to do it and his grandfather stepped up and said he would - not for the reasons you all stated (which are great reasons), but because the kid didn't want to.

I missed this episode. Who got eliminated? And are they still in Ireland or have they flown elsewhere?

The ministers. They flew from Ireland to Amsterdam, and the pit stop was in a Dutch village, IIRC.

Christina's dad is horrible. He must be friends with Alex Baldwin and learned how to treat his daughter from him. What a jerk and how she is still so repectful to him is beyond me. The weight comment was so wrong.

Loved the blondes when they commented about the lack of a facial or manicure.

Loved the L couple. They treated each other so beautifully. Too bad they were eliminated.

I second both of these statements. Poor Christina is having to deal with a control-freak father and I'm afraid it bodes ill for their longevity in the race. As for Nicholas, maybe there was something edited out of the discussion because otherwise it makes no sense for his grandfather to have been the one to do the challenge. Maybe they figured a more difficult one would come up later and they didn't want for Nicholas to use up his Road Blocks too early.

Third set of eyes: I wasn't shocked at all on the grandpa-grandson thing on the detour. Grandson is reed-thin, looks like he has no upper body strength or leg drive. Grandpa's built like a fireplug, and looks like he has the attitude of railroad workers around here. In addition, if I was on that team and strategizing, I'd want the oldest member to do as many early physical challenges as possible, because of the cumulative wearing down of the team.

In addition, as we saw from the encounter with arsehole Ron at the airport, grandson has little teeny cojones.

To me, it was a foregone conclusinon that the ministers were going to go sometime in the first 4 rounds; the only question was which one.

If Christina knew the Ron-ish guys that I know, she would figure out quickly that being passive (what she thinks of as positive) or even passive-aggressive, is never going to win anything with a jerk like him. She will have to get up in his face, all the time, if they're going to have any success. And I still don't think they will, because he's too much of a drag on the team.

BTW, there's an open casting call for TAR in locations in Illinois and Iowa coming up in the next couple weeks. Anyone going?

Well, it's only week two and already we are seeing some interesting melt-downs and other family dynamics. No surprise to see the women eliminated - that's who I would have bet on at this stage.

I thought having Don do the pole vault vs Nicholas was probably a bad strategy move as Nicholas looks to be pretty weak and if there are going to be strength road blocks and detours down the road, you'd probably want to save your teammate with the most strength for them. Nicholas is a beanpole who, so it seems, will have a tough time doing anything with strength. While the grandfather is older and probably slower, he may have the strength later on.

The Ronald / Christina dynamic is not as odd to me as it seems to be to others. He appears to be a traditionally Chinese or Japanese businessman. That is, things are done in a very structured way and deviation from that structure definitely puts him out of his comfort zone. Christina seems to be more able to go with the flow. I think his inflexibility will be an obstacle to their advancing past another week or two.

So far, nothing else has jumped out at me as being problematic for any of the other teams. Although, the Jennifer / Nathan duo may have some problems with his bringing up old girlfriends.

I would have loved to go to Ireland and The Netherlands.
