I understand that His Majesty's former colonies in America are abuzz with the upcoming election of your Chief Magistrate. Your political system is indeed a puzzlement, but I have finally found an explanation for it, in the nature of a parable, that even I can understand. From the mouths of babes...
A young gentleman approaches his father and asks, "Sir: would you be so kind as to explain 'Politics' to me?"
His father responds, "Son, let me try to explain it this way:
"I am the head of the family, so you may think of me as 'The President.' Your dear mother administers the money, so we call her the 'Government.' She and I are here to take care of your needs, so we will call you 'the People.' Your governess and others of the lower orders we will consider as 'the Working Class.' And your baby brother, we will call him 'the Future.'
"Now ponder upon this, and see if it makes sense."
So the young lad retires to his bed, considering what his father has told him. Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the wee one has severely soiled his nappies. So the young lad goes to his parents' room, wherein he finds his mother sound abed. Not desirous of waking wake her, he repairs to the governess' room.
Finding the door locked, and hearing an odd assortment of noises emanating from the chamber, he peeks into the keyhole, and he sees his father in bed with the governess. He gives up any further efforts and returns to his own bed.
The next morning, the young lad says to his father, "Sir: I do believe that I understand the concept of 'Politics' now."
His father embraces him heartily, saying, "Excellent! But pray, tell me in your own words what you think 'Politics' is all about."
The young lad replies, "The President screws the Working Class, while the Government is sound asleep. The People are entirely ignored. Because of this, the Future is in deep doo doo."

Re: Politics explained (non-political, sort of)
This is the most excellent and eloquent explanation I have ever read. It is all perfectly clear now!
