Is Major League Soccer coming to your city?
Major League Soccer currently has 14 teams:
New England Revolution
New York Red Bulls
D.C. United
Toronto F.C.
Columbus Crew
Chicago Fire
Kansas City Wizards
Houston Dynamo
FC Dallas
Colorado Rapids
Real Salt Lake
L.A. Galaxy
(L.A.) Chivas USA
San Jose Earthquakes
2009 Expansion
Seattle Sounders FC
2010 Expansion
Philadelphia (no announced name yet)
The league has announced plans to add two more teams by 2011. Yesterday was the deadline to apply for admission. Groups in these cities put in bids:
Ottawa - owner of the Ottawa Senators says he has a plan for a soccer stadium
Miami - FC Barcelona of Spain is behind this bid
Atlanta - owner of the Atlanta Falcons is making this bid
Montreal - owners of current lower league team already have a stadium and want to move up
Vancouver - local business group including Steve Nash
St Louis - already have a stadium about to start construction
Portland - another lower league team trying to move up
The two teams are supposed to be announced by March, 2010.
