If you can spare a thought or prayer...

#1 Post by KillerTomato » Sun Oct 12, 2008 7:06 pm

If you can, please take a second to send some thoughts and/or prayers towards the 'Burgh.

My dad's only sister (only sibling, in fact) passed away on Saturday morning. She was 85, and had been in poor health for about 10 years (since a fall, in which she broke a hip), so it is, in its own way, a blessing.

Then, to make things worse, dad himself fell on Saturday night. Turns out he was (again) dehydrated, and that exacerbated his own mobility problems (which he's had since his back surgery about 3 years ago). No major damage, thank goodness...he didn't break anything, or hit anything important. Only his pride was really hurt, but he's in the hospital for the dehydration (and should be back home tomorrow or Tuesday...in time for his sister's funeral on Wednesday).

So, this hasn't been a great weekend, so I (and my family) could use some good thoughts. Thanks in advance.

You got 'em. I hope things improve soon for your dad, and I'm sorry for the loss of your aunt. --Bob

Having my own parents of similar vintage and with similar issues, I'll include your dad in my ongoing thoughts. Hope he rebounds and enjoys a good quality of life for his remaining years. Best wishes.

More thoughts and prayers from down south.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Here's hoping he holds up. That they were able to diagnose & treat the dehydration is in its own way a good thing coming out of a bad thing.
