Is Ayers the Smoking Gun?
I've long believed that McCain's people have been holding back some particularly damaging bit of information about Obama until the right time, and the events of this week seem to indicate to me that it has something to do with his relationship with William Ayers. McCain, Palin, and the Republican 527's have been hitting Obama about Ayers far more than Wright (who's a virtual non-entity) or Rezko (ditto). McCain keeps stressing that what's important is not that Obama palled around with a terrorist (which is bad enough for me and plenty of other people), but that he lies about it.
If McCain does have something, I think he will try to pin Obama down during the debate about the exact extent of Obama's relationship with Ayers (Obama has even given him the opening to do that by challenging him to "say it to my face.") When that happens, either Obama gives an answer he can't wiggle out of that's heard and understood as such by millions of viewers, or he hems and haws and gets called out on it by McCain. Then when the fecal material hits the fan the next day, that is McCain's game changer.

I would love to but my doctor gave me instructions today to not drink in alcohol for a year to give my liver a rest for this past summer's excitement.christie1111 wrote:Give it a rest SSS!

..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.

I'm beginning to think it's time to try out the Friend/Foe feature that's now available, thanks to the upgrade. --Bob15QuestionsAway wrote:Hey SSS - Listen to Betty!

Hmmm. I wonder if it were discovered McCain had numerous meetings with David Duke and made speeches on the same bill with him and served on multiple boards with him if our friends on the left (and the main stream media) would take it so lightly. I think 'reporters' would have a field day with it, even if McCain told them it was just a diversion. Would anyone here think this hypothetical association, if documented as well as the Obama/Ayres relationship, would have an acceptible explanation? To me, as a conservative, this association would make McCain untouchable, and I can't think of any explanation that would be acceptible. Obama might have been in second grade when Ayres did most of his dirty work, but if he didn't know about his past actions, biography and recent writings (his diatribe just after 9/11) when he associated with him as an adult, how can his judgement on current associations and appointments be trusted.
I think David Duke and William Ayres are comparable 'ilk-wise'. I think this lack of concern about this association by Obama supporters, including the media, is an obvious double standard. If you don't think so, please explain to me why.
