I post over at baseball-fever.com occasionally, and I saw this photo in the ballparks section: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14504460@N ... 896715487/

It was taken yesterday, the day of game one of the NLCS. I guess the Mets are selling seats from Shea. They must be doing a booming business if they've removed almost all of them...

As I recall, old Busch Stadium was stripped bare within days of the end of the 2005 NLCS.... although in Busch's case, it was imperative to tear the stadium down so that the new stadium could be finished enough to play in before the start of the 2006 season....

They have been selling them at $869 per pair. There's significance to the price, and I'm sure the sharper among us can figure it out.

The rush to get the seats out is not necessarily a function of how fast they're selling. The demolition of Shea has to begin immediately, because they need the parking- the site of Shea will be a parking lot (right, not a garage, but a lot). Demolition will take a while because they can't use a wrecking ball or dynamite- the new stadium is about 20 feet from the outfield wall of Shea.
