Yeah, but you drive a Prius!TheConfessor wrote:It's amazing how excited most people get about saving six cents at the gas pump at the same time they're losing six figures from their life savings and 401Ks.
My local 7-11 was recently selling gas for $2.77. Three bucks is pretty common around here. I'd rather pay ten bucks a gallon and see the stock market back where it was a few months ago.
Is that supposed to be a joke? I have never even been in a Prius. I have stated here that I drive a 2000 Mazda pickup. It's the only vehicle I've owned for more than eight years.BackInTex wrote:Yeah, but you drive a Prius!TheConfessor wrote:It's amazing how excited most people get about saving six cents at the gas pump at the same time they're losing six figures from their life savings and 401Ks.

Supply and demand! People are driving less so the prices come down. The alternative would be for the governments to tax it more or for higher windfall profits.earendel wrote:At the risk of sounding like a wet blanket (or a Prius owner) I don't think cheap gas is such a good idea. People finally were beginning to realize the reality of being dependent upon foreign oil and now that prices are going back down, I believe the lesson will be short-lived.

Perhaps you're confusing him with me. I do drive a Prius, and I love it.BackInTex wrote:TheConfessor wrote:Is that supposed to be a joke? I have never even been in a Prius. For some reason I thought you drove a Prius. So now, it IS a joke. Ha ha. Ed drives a Prius [rim shot].
I know several BBs drive them. I know KT does and I believe Ear does. I simply thought Ed was one of them.danielh41 wrote: Perhaps you're confusing him with me. I do drive a Prius, and I love it.
I take offense at you saying I took offense. I don't know what gave you that impression. I was merely correcting your misstatement about what I drive. I thought maybe you were making a joke.BackInTex wrote:I know several BBs drive them. I know KT does and I believe Ear does. I wasn't making fun of them or people who drive them. I simply though Ed was driving a car that got 45 mpg and that was why he didn't care if gas was $10/gal.
I don't know why he took offense....if he did. Seemed like he did. But what do I know? I'm a nut.
It makes sense to me. I don't care too much where the stock market is today and my retirement accounts remain fully invested in stock mutual funds. I care where the stock market will be in twenty years, when I'll want the money I've got there. On the other hand, I have to pay the price of gas today (well, in the next week or two, when I next refill my Prius). --BobTheConfessor wrote:I take offense at you saying I took offense. I'll amend my statement about not caring if gas is $10/gallon. Heck, I wouldn't mind paying $100/gallon if I still had the money I've lost in the stock market recently. I've driven about 3000 miles in the past year. At 20 mpg, that's about 150 gallons of gas. Worst case, that's about 600 bucks, with gas @ $4/gallon. If gas went to $100/gallon, that's still only $15,000 per year, and I've lost way more than that in the stock market. Most other American families have lost more than that as well, but all they seem to care about is a few cents per gallon at the gas pump. It's crazy.
Chosing which gas station we go to may be the only control we have.but all they seem to care about is a few cents per gallon at the gas pump. It's crazy.
You italisized 'joke' giving it emphasis, so in my mind it sounded like offense might have been taken. I can't read my wife's verbal inflections correctly, let alone your written ones.TheConfessor wrote: I take offense at you saying I took offense. I don't know what gave you that impression.
