I need help (Political - god help me)

#1 Post by sunflower » Wed Oct 08, 2008 9:12 am

So...here's the story.

My boyfriend has a friend who is an obnoxious Obama supporter. Okay let me rephrase that. She is obnoxious in general. Plus she is an Obama supporter, so she is over the top about just about anything, including this election.

She sends scathing anti-Palin and anti-McCain propaganda to him through email and on Facebook. He is just sick of listening, his take is vote for whoever you want, I don't care, just keep me out of all of this.

For the record, he is not even certain which candidate he is voting for, if he votes at all.

Purely out of spite, he would like to find some anti-Obama/anti-Biden jokes. For those of you who have seen the Sarah Palin flow chart, something along those lines. I am reaching out to you to help me locate one or more items.

His mission is to send it to all of her friends, from her - in sort of a Punk'd type activity. So ideally it would be something that can be emailed from a third party site, so that he can put her name in the "from" box.

I really don't want to know what candidate you prefer. This post is not meant to show my preference for either candidate or to solicit input. It's just about playing a joke on an obnoxious friend, and it just happens to be politically related. Thank you in advance for your help! :D

My suggestion is don't do it! I think people would not find it funny.

I yelled at a couple people over the rifle/bikini pic, and I think this would put Boyfriend in for the same kind of yelling.

Maybe a simple request would do it? Something on the order of "Stop sending me this sh*t?", since she seems to need an over-the-top emphasis?
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

I vote no, also. Tit-for-tat never solved anything.

I have a 'friend' who was sending me a whole bunch of anti-Obama e-mails - forwarded a dozen times. I would get 3 or 4 a day. Most I just deleted before reading. One title just got me. It was about him not wearing a flag pin or saluting the flag.

On September 26, I sent her back an e-mail and said this:

I suggest that you do not want this to be about flag pin wearing or flag saluting or how many cars or homes someone knows they have or don't have or about whose daughter is pregnant or about any of this nonsense. You want to talk about issues - I'm in - you want to talk about this stuff, I'm pretty much not interested.

I have not heard from her since.

I'm not big into jokes about either candidate. Maybe I just think that this election is too important to make jokes about. I do have a friend who sent out an e-mail to her joke list about how she was coming out in favor of Obama. She said she had just donated 25 dollars to Planned Parenthood, etc. I wrote her back, telling her what a coincidence this was since I had just donated 50 dollars to BornAliveTruth.org so that they could spread the word about Obama and infanticide. I haven't heard back from her...

My cousin is very conservative and even hosts a conservative radio talk show in his town. He tried sending me stuff for awhile. I wrote back that I knew that sending him things from my point of view would not change his mind and that he needed to realize his emails would not change mine either. I suggested he stop copying me and that we both keep our opinions to ourselves since sharing would only make us both angry.

He agreed. We do not email. We don't really speak either except on those rare occasions when the family gets together........

I'm pretty sure that this is borderline illegal, it is certainly unethical. Just block her email from your server.

Perhaps you can find what you want on The People's Cube
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I will agree that I would not do that either.

A request that if ignore would then just make me delete things before reading them.

Or you could do what some do with those annoying cards that drop out of magazines. They put them in the mail back to the magazine with no other information. Sort of like reverse spam.

I don't do it. But I keep secretly hoping that they stop putting htem in magazine because of this.

So respond to each one with a canned comment like 'This message has been deleted without being read'
