The Town Hall audience

I wonder who did the "warm-up comedian" job for the audience, last night?

I understand that the rules were not to applaud at any time after the introductions, but half of those people were frozen like statues. They weren't even looking in the direction of the candidate who was talking--they just stared straight ahead.

Was Sister Killjoy offstage with a ruler, threatening to whack the knuckles of the first person to move?

They know who to call when people need to be kept in line, and fun should be kept to a bare minimum. My cohort Otto Ashcroft was perched up in the rafters with an AK-47 just waiting for someone to so much as pick their nose....

The "ordinary citizens" were supposedly chosen by the Gallup organization from undecided Nashville voters. Think about that next time one of those pollsters calls you.

Or next time you audition ...

"Why do you want to be on the show?"

"Oh, I haven't decided, really, I just got talked into coming with a friend."

That wasn't a true town hall debate. The questions were selected ahead of time from who knows how many questions submitted. The only difference between this debate and the first one is that people in the audience were reading the questions rather than the moderator. And Tom Brokeoff was pretty bad at the moderator job.

I don't think that'd work so well for me, any more. :|
