With tickets going on sale Monday, and no way to get them, I got a miracle in my inbox from Tony Orlando's agent today. Thought I'd share it with you for those who needed a boost.

James:

Tony said of course he would be happy to provide you with three (3) tickets and backstage clearance at the Mohegan Sun show on December 13. We can have the tickets under your name at will call and on the backstage list. Tony said this is his small way to say thank you for all you do for the MDA.

PS: This will be extra special, as December 13th is my father's 58th birthday. It's also my first time to a casino where I can actually have the option to gamble just a tad.

Why haven't you been able to gamble in a casino until now?

I turned 21 in March, which is the legal age here to gamble. Due to the drive from where I live to Mohegan Sun (probably 75-90 minutes) I just never had a chance, or the funds to do it.

I am only saying this because I am sort of cheap, but if it took you a while to save up funds to gamble, why don't you just keep the money and use it for something useful, rather than risk losing it to the Mohegans?

As someone who loves to play blackjack, I will chime in with different advice.

Choose an amount of money that you would be fine paying to have fun gambling. Do not play with more than that amount. Make sure you are having enough fun to spend that amount of money. It is about fun for me.

Choose an amount of money that if you were ahead and lost it, you would no longer think you had fun. Leave the table when you reach that amount. Do not go for more.

Know that having free fun is free fun. Some of my best times gambling have been when I sat down with the same money I left with.

You know what's funny is I never actually realized how much I'd want to gamble - even $50 seems like too much to lose - you're talking to a guy who buys $5 scratch-offs on special occasions, and that's pushing it. At least with the state lottery, you have 1 in 4 odds. Slots? It's gonna take 400 pulls! (lol.) On the one hand, if I go up there and go through all that trouble to get there and don't at least try some slots, I'm going to feel deprived. On the other hand, if I blow $50, that's gonna suck.

Uh, I'm going to gamble $20 worth I think. lol Sounds pathetic, and like something out of a game show - I'll go for $20 on the daily double, Mr. Fleming. But that's what I feel "comfortable" with.

You're a smart guy. You can make $20 last awhile. I love blackjack. I agree with Pea. Allot just so much that you can be comfortable with not having, and have fun with it before it's gone. Play on their money.

There are so many good restaurants at Mohegan, that I recommend spending your money there rather than gambling. Because it's only about 45 minutes from my house, sometimes we head out there on a weekend for dinner.

It depends what kind of food you like but my two favorites are Michael Jordan's steakhouse and Tuscany (Todd English). Depending on your budget, Michael Jordan's steakhouse has a sports cafe side that is significantly cheaper and has many of the same food items (you don't get the dim romantic atmosphere but for a third of the price that's ok!) - try the lobster mashed potatoes, YUM!

They're also opening some new restaurants in the new casino they just opened, I don't know the timing on that.

I happen to like blackjack more than I like food.

I would rather spend $50 playing blackjack for a few hours (I usually can do that on $50) than spend it on a meal that I will poop out the next morning (If I am lucky)

I'm a poker person, so I prefer Foxwoods. I was there last night, actually. The Mohegan Sun poker room just opened and is not yet running smoothly. So for me, Mohegan is for the restaurants and Foxwoods is for gambling!
