It wasn't Nigerians!

I got a phone call from a Detective in Hoover Alabama today.

The police followed up on the report that I filed with the Placentia Police Department and on a "We-Tip" web site.

It seems that Mr. Les Stuckey answered an ad on Craigslist for part time work. He agreed to act as a shipper for an organization called Global Parcel Express. Computers got shipped to his house and he forwarded them to Russia. For each computer he forwarded, he received $30. The Russians are the people who were breaking into eBay accounts.

Mr. Stuckey didn't realize that it is illegal to ship computers to Russia. Apparently Mr. Stuckey did this eight times before they were caught because of my tracking down the UPS label. The Russians realized their scam was compromised and stopped using Mr. Stuckey as a shipper.

The police can't prosecute Mr. Stuckey because they can't prove that he had criminal intent.

Great! I'm glad you put a stop to that part at least.

Have you gotten a refund from PayPal yet?

Should they get blamed?

You know, I hadn't thought about that, but maybe it would be nice to pass a notable profession down to my family. They won't be very excited about the really good beer part, however.

At least, not yet.

Suppose he was shipping them to Florida. Just what part of this work scope seems normal?

I hope some local reporter got or gets ahold of this and makes a good story out of it.

It especially seems abnormal considering what his webpage states that his main profession is.

I'm glad someone finally pursued this.

PSM,

I am so glad to hear you got a successful resolution to your horrible experience. Good for you that you didn't give up. Can the police trace the money that Les gets each time he ships the computers? Where did it come from?

As soon as they realized that the police were on to Les, they closed their bank accounts and email addresses, so the police can't locate them.

Poor Les probably didn't get his $30 then...

I have to say, for $30 it doesn't even seem worth the hassle, even if you think it's legal!

I don't buy the story that Les didn't know. Would the first Q you ask be 'so why don't you just ship them yourself?'

There has to be something going on that requires you to pay $30 a box to be a middleman.

I can't tell you how close Les Stuckey came to being a member of the bored. If I cudda thought of anything half funny, he would be a member now.

Les had been doing this for a while, so he has been paid some money.
