Just saw this on CNN. Cause of death - cancer. I'm in shock. He was one of the best actors ever. Very sad.

I know that he had been sick, but it's still sad.

And he was one of the Good Guys, too.

There was an interesting article about him in Vanity Fair recently. When he started making his salad dressing, he was told that the only way it would get bottled is if he put his face on the label. He was very hesistant to do it, but in the end relented.

And a relatively 'normal' person for as big a star as he was.
Lots of stories here in CT about how he was just a down to earth person who didn't fuss with all the celebrity status stuff.
His legacy will live on with the Hole in the Wall Gang and his many other generous ventures.
Truly one of the Good Guys. And a damn fine actor.
Condolences to his family and especially his wife Joanne.

Cool Hand Luke has just been re-released on DVD in a terrific new print with some great extras. Luke, Hud, and the Hustler are probably his best work and some of the best work of any actor you'll see around.
Newman was never afraid to play flawed characters but he always found a way to make them likable on some level. His wife is one classy woman and classy actress as well.
He was also about as generous with his time and money as any celebrity.

and even had a long, happy marriage to the same woman!
He was one of the great ones. May he rest in peace and no longer suffer.

What a great loss for all
He was a man who defined the word "classy"

I remember that he was probably the only movie star that I ever considered having a crush on when I was a kid.
He was, indeed, one of the good guys.

I've put Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid on after I saw the news this morning. He was a great actor, and he had an incredible giving spirit. He'll be greatly missed.

I remember an old poster. It's a black and white photo, just the eyes are blue. Amazing.
Last time I saw him on Leno, he mentioned that he and Sundance I mean Robert Redford might be thinking about a project. No chance now.
I loved him in those less stellar roles too. Cool Hand Luke and Hud were unbelieveably good. But Nobody's Fool was wonderful in a different way. He was great.

Paul Newman was in the same fraternity (Phi Kappa Tau) that I was in. It was always a big deal for any Phi Tau to be a volunteer at any of the Hole In The Wall camps. He was a very giving individual and a classy guy.
