Today's Show (Friday 9/26)

#1 Post by peacock2121 » Fri Sep 26, 2008 10:45 am

Spoiler
Ogi Ogied someone again.

Not as bad as the last time, and Ogied all the same.

Why, if he is 100% sure, ask the contestant what they think?

I will not accept his reason as the reason this time.

If you will not accept his own reason, I guess you'll just have to decide that Ogi is evil.

Out of curiousity, though, what part of his explanation doesn't seem acceptable to you?

He is not evil. He could be a liar, he could have not clue what is motivating his actions and made that up because it looked like that would be a good reason. Ogi is not evil He could be driven soley by his self interest or selfish - so many other reasons than that he is evil.

I do know you are joking about him being evil.

If he wanted to buy himself time, this time, the question (What do you think the answer is) came way too late in the conversation. He didn't need the time. He got the time by asking her if she saw the film. She filled a whole bunch of time with her answer.

I could list at least a dozen reasons why Ogi's approach to being an Expert might make good sense for both him and the contestant, but it will have to wait for some other time. I'm already late for the three day Austin City Limits Music Festival, where Rodney Crowell and Asleep at the Wheel just started playing (on different stages).

I hope you had fun! I entered a contest through Dell to try and win tickets to the ACL Music Festival. Unfortunately, I didn't win. Please post details!

I'm also interested in finding out whether your theories about Ogi's methods to being an expert are similar to my own.

I'm trying to catch up on things, so I'll try to make this brief. For me, the top three most worthwhile performances I saw were:
David Byrne (I've never seen him before. The music was good and the dancers added visual interest.)
John Fogerty (Would probably be my #1 pick if I hadn't already seen him twice before.)
Robert Plant & Allison Krauss (I've seen them separately, but not together.)

I'm sure some would say my choices were predictable for an old fogy, which is probably true. There were lots of newer acts that have varying levels of fame. I liked some of them, and others just seemed like annoying noise. There were always several stages going at once, with the biggest name acts competing against each other, so people had to make a lot of tough choices.

Others that made a favorable impression on me include:
Gnarls Barkely, Vampire Weekend, Gogol Bordello, Manu Chao, Jamie Lidell, Jakob Dylan, Xavier Rudd, Tegan and Sara.

A few that I didn't care for:
The Mars Volta, Erykah Badu, Silversun Pickups, The Raconteurs, Kevin Fowler, Foo Fighters.

In several cases I just heard a song or two while walking between other stages. There were other bands I would have liked to see, but I couldn't be two places at once. I planned to see 30 minutes of Beck after Robert Plant, but he apparently quit early, so I missed him. Other than that exception, the shows ran almost to the exact minute that they showed on the schedule grid.

I wore a pedometer this weekend to see how far I walked. In the three days, I put in almost 40,000 steps, which in my case is about 23 miles. Maybe a third of that was walking to and from the venue.

I'll try to get back to you on the Ogi thing.

I like the Raconteurs, especially the part of the group that is half of the White Stripes, but I have never seen them in concert.

I also really like the Foo Fighters. (Our remaining rabbit is named Foo Foo Fighter...)

Vampire Weekend's song "A-Punk" has sort of a Punk Rock/Ska vibe. I think that they wold be very fun to see in concert.

The Raconteurs were a clear case of false advertising. I expected to hear them tell some entertaining stories, but they mostly just played guitars and sang.

I LOVED Robert Plant & Alison Krauss when I saw them in June.
