I'd need to check but I think Guadacanal Diary completes by Helen Hayes (Richard Jaekel - unless I am thinking of other war movies)

Re: Game #165: Who's on First?
Thanks. I KNEW I'd left something off the list of partials.silverscreenselect wrote:Jill Clayburgh was in I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can with Joe Pesci (My Cousin Vinny).
AND Bob Hope - Call me, Bwana. Which I also forgot.
NOW, with Bob Hope being used twice that we know of, plus a partial ... I am wondering... if somehow, there is a Hedy Lamarr movie that we are missing.
that would give us the fourth use of Hope -- my Favorite Spy -- and complete one of Spencer Tracy's possibilities.

Re: Game #165: Who's on First?
There is no Hedy Lamarr movie. I thought the title of My Favorite Spy was a bit ambiguous; the 'spy' in the title could have been Hope himself. So I didn't use that one. I did not intend to use that Spencer Tracy movie or Call Me Bwana either.mellytu74 wrote:Thanks. Re: Game #165: Who's on First?
On List A, one of the definite answers is still wrong. (I rechecked the quotation just to be sure.) It has not been used in any match.
On List A, the one with two suggested answers does not include the correct answer.
On List B, it does not matter which of the two alternates you use.
Among the completed matches, the only one I did not intend was Arise, My Love. I was not sure whether the "I" referred to Milland or Colbert.
The incomplete list correctly identifies two halves of the same pair. Look for the same movie title showing up twice in the list.
Good job!

Identify the 80 actors in List A and the 50 movies in List B. (Every other clue is a quotation.) Then, form 90 pairs, each consisting of one movie and one actor, according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself.
Seven actors will be used twice and one will be used four times.
Nineteen movies will be used twice, six will be used three times, and three will be used four times.

Re: Game #165: Who's on First?
As soon as Frank said this, I had a hunch I knew which one was wrong (it's one of mine):franktangredi wrote:On List A, one of the definite answers is still wrong. (I rechecked the quotation just to be sure.) It has not been used in any match.
This is OWEN WILSON in Cars, which means the film has to be Marley and MeA-13. “Okay, here we go. Focus. Speed. I am speed. One winner, forty-two losers. I eat losers for breakfast. Breakfast? Maybe I should have had breakfast? Brekkie could be good for me. No, no, no, focus. Speed. Faster than fast, quicker than quick. I am Lightning.”

And THIS
B-17. “I just don't know how we got here. Our entire relationship, I have gone above and beyond for you, for us. I've cooked, I've picked your s**t up off the floor, I've laid your clothes out for you like you're a four year old. I support you, I supported your work. If we ever had dinner or anything I did the plans, I take care of everything. And I just don't feel like you appreciate any of it. I don't feel you appreciate me. All I want is to know, is for you to show me that you care.”
is THE BREAK-UP
There's our Jennifer Aniston movie for Marley and Me.

Is there an Eileen Heckert movie in here? Because she would complete these two matches.

Oh, for heaven's sake.
This is a Frank Tangredi movie quiz, is it not?
And WHO is Frank Tangredi's favorite actress?
A-10. ALEC McCOWEN (Travels with My Aunt) with Dame Maggie (B-45. MURDER BY DEATH)
Jeez
And an obvious partial I haven't seen:
A-44. HOWARD KEEL (Kiss Me, Kate) with ...
A-48. Only a handful of movies that have won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film were also nominated for Best Picture; this actor starred in two of them, 42 years apart.
Jean-Louis Trintignant (Z and Amour)
That gives us
A-48. JEAN-LOUIS TRINTIGNANT (My Night at Maud's) with Marie Christine Barrault (B-36. COUSIN, COUSINE)

Re: Game #165: Who's on First?
Working backward. ... I couldn't figure out where I knew this from
A-51. “The last time I flew here from LA, George Clooney was sitting two seats in front of me. With those cuff links, and that ridiculous chin. We ended up flying through this really bad storm. The plane started to rattle and shake, and everyone on board was crying, and praying. And I just sat there. Sat there thinking that when Sam opened that paper it was going to be Clooney's face on the front page. Not mine. Did you know that Farrah Fawcett died on the same day as Michael Jackson?”
MICHAEL KEATON (in Birdman)
A-51. MICHAEL KEATON (My Life) with Nicole Kidman (B-23. COLD MOUNTAIN)
AND do movies about themselves work? Because
A-15. JOAQUIN PHOENIX (I'm Still Here) with Casey AfflecK (MANCHESTER BY THE SEA)

This will wrap a couple of them up.
Brenda Fricker was in My Left Foot and So I Married an Axe Murderer. She was also in Home Alone 2.

Re: Game #165: Who's on First?
I am thinking our used-four-time actor is Susan Hayward because, in addition to the two we already have I can think of at LEAST two more movies that could work -- With a Song in My Heart, I'll Cry Tomorrow, I'd Climb the Highest Mountain. there may be more.
AND I think I'd Climb the Highest Mountain has WIlliam Lundigan, who was in The Fabulous Dorseys.
EDITED TO ADD:
AND, I just realized that Richard Conte of I'll Cry Tomorrow was in Guadalcanal Diary.

I was going to use I'd Climb the Highest Mountain for a fifth Susan Hayward match, but I wasn't 100% sure she was the "I" of the title. Didn't realize I inadvertently created a match for that one as well!mellytu74 wrote:I am thinking our used-four-time actor is Susan Hayward because, in addition to the two we already have I can think of at LEAST two more movies that could work -- With a Song in My Heart, I'll Cry Tomorrow, I'd Climb the Highest Mountain. there may be more.

I had intended Jared Rushton of Big to be the Honey I Shrunk the Kids match, but this works just as well.silverscreenselect wrote:An admitted cheat on this one.
