I'm not giving up on this game, either. I've just been so busy with other stuff during the past week that I never got around to posting a new consolidation.

LONG AWAITED CONSOLIDATION UPDATE

Unintentional matches are listed separately... and I know that one of those John Wayne matches is unintentional, as Frank said earlier that he used just one of those John Wayne films.

Game #161: Old Movies, New Movies

Identify the 45 actors in List A and the 45 movies in List B. (Every other clue is a quotation.) Then, form 50 pairs, each consisting of one movie and one actor, according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself. This is SON OF FRANKENSTEIN

Now, Nigel Bruce ... were some of the Sherlock Holmes movie titles taken from The Bible? Because we can get the Basil Rathbone match from here.

OR

Could one of Karloff's early talkies give us the Barrymore / Beulah Bondi match?

As far as I can tell, this is what we still have to be used once.

Sally Field (Eye for an Eye), Bloom, Ramirez and Jolie are all possible partials

By any stretch of the imagination .... is Gone with the Wind from The Bible? I thought it was a poem, but it would give us Laura Hope Crews and Streetcar Named Desire.

A-2. LIV ULLMANN
A-5. SALLY FIELD
A-7. ORLANDO BLOOM
A-13. LIONEL BARRYMORE
A-14. LAURA HOPE CREWS
A-18. SHARON STONE
A-22. EDGAR RAMIREZ
A-26. ANGELINA JOLIE
A-27. NICK NOLTE
A-29. BEULAH BONDI
A-39. MAXIMILIAN SCHELL

B-3. THE TERMINATOR
B-12. DESTRY RIDES AGAIN
B-13. MONSTERS VS. ALIENS
B-16. TRAVELS WITH MY AUNT
B-22. DAMAGE
B-24. The early Hitchcock
B-26. WHITE CLIFFS OF DOVER
B-29. THE GRIFTERS
B-31. THE WOLF OF WALL STREET
B-33. MUNICH
B-44. CRIES AND WHISPERS
B-45. A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE

And ditto ON BORROWED TIME -- from the Bible?

It would give us Lionel Barrymore ... or Beulah Bondi (if The Furies/Stanwyck is wrong) and Una Merkel (Destry Rides Again)

A-5. SALLY FIELD = EYE FOR AN EYE with Keifer Sutherland (B-13. MONSTERS VS. ALIENS)

Working backwards, we get ....

A-27. NICK NOLTE = THE GOLDEN BOWL with Anjelica Huston (B-29. THE GRIFTERS)

AND

A-7. ORLANDO BLOOM = KINGDOM OF HEAVEN with Jeremy Irons (B-22. DAMAGE)

Would this work?

A-4. PETER USTINOV = EVIL UNDER THE SUN with Roddy McDowell (B-26. WHITE CLIFFS OF DOVER)

UNLESS Evil Under the Sun is here for Dame Maggie (Travels with my Aunt).

And heaven knows, it's Dame Maggie!

B-24. This early Hitchcock talkie was the first film in which a character’s inner thoughts were heard on the soundtrack.

This is MURDER!

And I think it might solve one of the possibilities that Frank mentioned earlier.

I am pretty sure THIS ....

A-45. BETTE DAVIS = THE LITTLE FOXES with Teresa Wright (B-2. MRS. MINIVER)

becomes THIS

A-45. BETTE DAVIS = THE LITTLE FOXES with Herbert Marshall (B-24. MURDER!)

I did a very poor job of avoiding alternate possibilities, as usual. So let us say that, once every movie and every actor has been used at least once, the game is solved!

I promise to do better next time, but those alternates do seem to sneak in.

But, Frank! I am enjoying the alternate possibilities .... it's a lovely challenge.

Besides, it's a nice reminder that Jim Backus did some serious acting back in the day.
