While it's still unlikely I failed to see any of those examples above, it's very likely not to have been something I'd have ever noticed enough to pay attention to..... especially since the ones I had the best chance of actually reading all occurred well before the commercial that put the term on the map for me.....

As Fanny will tell you though, I do enjoy being enlightened on things I never knew before....... thanks!

Укусить меня, невежественный мешок сока!
LOL!

I can't believe Alta Vista came up with an accurate translation!
-- In Iroquois society, leaders are encouraged to remember seven generations in the past and consider seven generations in the future when making decisions that affect the people.
-- America would be a better place if leaders would do more long-term thinking. -- Wilma Mankiller

I would have said: Укусить меня, вас в неведении мешок сок!

Вы говорите, картофель, я говорю картофеля.
Innocent, naive and whimsical. And somewhat footloose and fancy-free.

... He definitely says m.
I saw it over the weekend and paid particular attention to that part. He does say "mamby," but that doesn't make it correct...

That's the only place I've really heard it.... thus you can blame Mr. Ermey for my ignorance. I want to be there when you chastise him......

Okay, I had no idea what you three were on about it until now. I thought that Jay Leno had made namby-pamby his catchphrase or something.

I might have to jump on the mamby-pamby jackwagon. I'm pretty sure that Ermey could kick my ass. Pope, not so much.....

Hey! I learned something today! I always thought that the phrase had been coined by Alexander Pope. I decided to look it up after posting this and guess what? He didn't, it was some cat named Harry Carey.

But my joke works better with Pope (because everything goes better with Pope, ha!), so I'm going to just continue in my delusions.....
