Re: Fire up the toaster!
Congratulations to the New York Mets, who have clinched a postseason berth. (Words I never dreamed I'd get to write this year when the Mets were 11 games under .500 at the end of May.) --Bob

I guess the Mets forgot their Metsiness for just long enough and just in time. Wow, what a game! --Bob

Re: Fire up the toaster!
Anybody know if the below circumstances have been given any consideration by MLB as to who gets home field in the World Series? (I think I have all my math right).
They cancelled the final Houston/Cleveland game. The Astros ended up 88 and 73 (.546). That game doesn't make a difference in the AL playoffs.
But could make a difference IF the Astros make it to the World Series AND:
* The Mets lose against the Braves today and make it to the World Series. The Mets would be 89 and 73 (.549), the record the Astros COULD have had if they won the final game against the Indians Guardians The Astros own the head to head tie breaker (2 of 3).
* The Mets win against the Braves, putting the Diamondbacks in the playoffs, and IF the Diamondbacks make the World Series with their 89 and 73 records (.549). The Astros own the head to head tie breaker (2 of 3).
Atlanta owns the tie breaker against the Astors (3 to 0). Should they win today they and make it to the World Series, along with the Astros, it wouldn't matter if the Astros won the final game against the Indians Guardians.

Could haves don't count. The Astros finished 88-73 and will or will not have home field advantage based on that percentage compared to the NL champion (who will have played 162 games, so no tiebreakers will be involved.)BackInTex wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 3:09 pmAnybody know if the below circumstances have been given any consideration by MLB as to who gets home field in the World Series? Re: Fire up the toaster!
Arizona has lost 73 games and won 89. Los Angeles has won 98 games so Arizona did not win the National League Western Division. The Padres won 93 games so the Diamondbacks finished behind one non-division winner in the National League Western Division. Philadelphia won 95 games, Atlanta and New York each won 89 games, and both Atlanta and New York win tiebreakers against Arizona, so Arizona finished behind two non-division winners in the National League Eastern Division.

i figured that. I'm just surprised MLB, or the Astros, let the game be cancelled. It was not meaningless.silverscreenselect wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 3:51 pmCould haves don't count.
