Re: Put the Blame Where it Belongs-China
Not much surprises me on the Bored anymore, but I am absolutely Gobsmacked by the resistance I have gotten from SSS and the Bobs to the idea of looking at the China angle in this.
The funniest part is that the 2 Bobs are very quick to cry "Whataboutism" in any discussion. Now, when somebody says lets look at China-all we hear are an endless stream of "Whatabaout Trump?" "Whatabout Trump." That strikes me as extremely amusing.
I am bringing this earlier post about the YouTube video from a couple of posts ago forward as I don't want it lost in the shitstorm.

10-minute Youtube video on the Wuhan Biolab.
The speaker is following public information bread crumbs on the Chinese internet and believes the virus came from the lab.

I'm even more astounded by Democrats lambasting Trump for providing emergency supplies to hard-hit countries.
If Obama had done it, they'd be like "foreign lives matter" and "fighting the virus there will reduce its spread to our country." Instead they're all America First.

Obviously, given his extreme partisan and ideological, bent it doesn't surprise me that he is not. But, one would think that Bob#'s, as the big, self-purported science guy here, might at least be the tiniest bit interested in the Wuhan biological lab.jarnon wrote: ↑Sat Apr 04, 2020 9:56 amI'm even more astounded by Democrats lambasting Trump for providing emergency supplies to hard-hit countries.

As a science guy, it seems to me that his talents are wasted endlessly chasing "Linda Quick" or whatever the latest MSNBC squirrel is.

That probably belongs in the other thread. I think readers of this one would be more interested in your take on bio-security protocols at Chinese biological labs.
Given their behavior in this thread; I have a mental image of SSS and the Bobs holding their breath and stomping their feet and whining-"Why won't Spock play 'Gotcha' domestic politics with us?"
Will everybody please stop polluting this thread and put the domestic politics in the other thread. This is a CHINA thread.
But, just to warn everybody, I will be bringing in Senator Tom Cotton as he has been on the Wuhan lab stuff for a long time. That would be a type of domestic politics that is on-topic to the thread.

Speaking for myself, I'd consider it if you changed the thread's title to something that wasn't attempting to shift the blame from Donny's incompetent response to the pandemic. --Bob

Re: Put the Blame Where it Belongs-China
I'm not a "science guy," but I looked at your sources, and I have to say that the evidence that your handful of fringe twitter and youtube posters have put out there is certainly overwhelming. However, this is what the actual world scientific community has to say:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/brucelee/2 ... 8783053728Viruses do have genetic material like people, except their genetic material is not quite as complex as those of humans. Nevertheless, like humans, viruses still pass along such materials when they replicate and evolve. [S]cientists can use more advanced genetic analysis to figure out the origins, the “family tree” of SARS-CoV2.
Indeed, strong clues had already emerged by February 26, 2020, when a Perspectives piece was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. In the piece, David M. Morens, M.D. and Peter Daszak, Ph.D. from the National Institute of Health (NIH) and Jeffery K. Taubenberger, M.D., Ph.D. wrote: “Of course, scientists tell us that SARS-CoV-2 did not escape from a jar: RNA sequences closely resemble those of viruses that silently circulate in bats, and epidemiologic information implicates a bat-origin virus infecting unidentified animal species sold in China’s live-animal markets.”
Even more evidence of a natural rather than human-made origin for SARS-CoV2 has emerged from a study described in a research letter just published in Nature Medicine. In the letter, a research team (Kristian G. Andersen from The Scripps Research Institute, Andrew Rambaut from the University of Edinburgh, W. Ian Lipkin from the Mailman School of Public Health of Columbia University, Edward C. Holmes from The University of Sydney and Robert F. Garry from Tulane University) described how they had analyzed the genetic sequences that code for the protein spikes on the surface of SARS-CoV2. The virus looks sort of like a medieval mace with multiple spikes sticking out from its spherical shape. These spikes aren’t just for show as the virus uses them to latch on to a cell that it wants to invade and then push its way into the cell. Very medieval stuff.
Apparently, portions of these spike proteins are so effective in targeting specific receptors on human cells that it is hard to imagine humans manufacturing them, not with known existing technology. The researchers then concluded that this feature and thus the new coronavirus could have in all likelihood only evolved over time naturally. You see humans can make useful stuff like ride-sharing apps but are still quite puny compared to nature when it comes to making stuff like viruses.
In fact, the research team found that the SARS-CoV-2 structure in general is quite different from what humans would have likely concocted. If a human had wanted to create a viral weapon, he or she would have started with the structure of a virus that’s already known to cause illness in people. Naturally, if you want to make a weapon, you may want to start with something like a grenade launcher rather than a smoothie maker, not that the virus looks like either. Instead, the structure of SARS-CoV2 is quite similar to those of viruses known to infect bats and pangolins.
So there you have it: scientific evidence trumping conspiracy theories. Will all of these scientific findings finally quash the “virus-was-made-in-a-lab-and-it-is-your-fault” rhetoric between the politicians and on social media? Probably not. Since when has science stopped such political rhetoric. Maybe, though, it will get more people to focus on the much more important matter at hand: trying to control this pandemic together.
Spock, your theories would be more credible if you actually cited some medical or scientific authorities willing to go on record supporting them, rather than the usual right wing crackpots. Their track record in regard to the coronavirus in general is abysmal. As it is, this is on the level of pizzagate.

Oh, that's right, SSS wanted me to list a scientist for the Wuhan lab stuff

Here is Richard H Ebright,"
>>>A molecular biologist proclaimed Thursday that the Chinese coronavirus could have originated at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and been leaked, leading to it’s horrific spread around the globe.
Richard H. Ebright, a professor of chemical biology at Rutgers University, told The Daily Caller that he believes it is a distinct possibility that an accident in the laboratory in China could have caused the outbreak."<<<<
The following quote is especially important
>>>"While the professor has been cited by the likes of The Washington Post and MSNBC to dismiss theories about the virus being a bioweapon, the media has not covered his belief that the possibility of a lab accident being the source of the outbreak “cannot–and should not–be dismissed.”<<<
Personally, I am in the lab accident camp. I am not in the bio-weapon camp. A view that I hold in common with Senator Cotton

Re: Put the Blame Where it Belongs-China
In reading what Ebright has to say, he just says you can't dismiss the possibility that the virus originated from the lab. And that's the equivalent of what happens in a trial in which the defense attorney cross-examines the expert witness and asks, "But isn't it possible that..." which of course the expert has to admit.
But let's get beyond that. Let's suppose for a minute that you are President, Spock. What do you propose to do about China? (We know what Trump's going to do, nothing) Tell them not to do it anymore. Sue them? Go to war? Just what?
This entire thread is an exercise in you feeling good about bashing evil foreigners.

Plus, I am totally lost as to how the stuff about the possibility of a lab accident at the Wuhan lab-where most of my posts are concentrated-could in any way be construed as "bashing evil foreigners." But, you do you, I guess.

China’s propaganda pandemic in an expanding timeline
>>"All official Chinese government propaganda is the official voice of the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
