My "dying" monster-in-law said that I had to name Emma after her, according to Jewish tradition.

Yeah, Phyllis is a name that I want to saddle a little girl with.

her favorite brother was named Horst Ludwig, and we weren't going there
Ludwig = Louis! Remember my great-grandma Ludvika Czarnecki? Leah Louise is partly named for her. Coulda gone w/ Louis :) Eh, but it's your kid; she don't get to name it!

And is M-I-L still alive?

When Eileen married into Rob's Jewish family, she found out that as long as you use the same first initial, it counts! When Rose was born they went through several name possibilities. There are a few deceased Roses, Rosemarys & Rosellas in both families -- along with our youngest sister Rosemary -- so Rose was easy. She wanted to honor Grandma with a middle name -- but they thought "Rose Elizabeth" had way too much "zzzzzzz" sound for their liking! So they named her Rose Emily. And since Emily starts with E, it counts!

She's alive. Her breast cancer is totally in remission.

How do kids without middle names know when they are in trouble?

Looks like nobody here has confessed to having the middle name Wayne.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

My middle name is Patricia, after my mom's friend-who wound up being my godmother.

My brother got named after our grandpas (like NE1410s brother). I'm glad my folks didn't name me after my grandmas-Eleanor and Dorothy sound WAY too old-fashioned.
I'm just a game show nerd.

I read this one aloud to my wife and son and it cracked them up, especially my son (whose middle name is David which does indeed get invoked when he's in trouble).

And people want to know why I hate answering the middle name question.... :P

It was my maternal grandfather's name. He died when my Mom was only 15, so I'm kinda surprised I didn't get it as a first name like one of my cousins did....

My high school boyfriend went by Wayne, which was his middle name. He was NOT psycho. He was kinda boring. Psycho might have spiced things up...

I just realized that after I broke up with Wayne, my next boyfriend's middle name was ALSO Wayne. He's also not in jail. His son is one grade ahead of my oldest at the same school.

Sheesh!

He had 4 names, so which one would be considered the middle?

Yes, we knew that we were in trouble when the middle names were used.

If my Mom was really peeved, she added the middle name "Aloysius".

That is when you started to ponder the after-life.
