Why is buying a MegaMillions ticket like the guy going to a strip club? You both know someone is going to get lucky and it won't be you.

No one gets lucky in a strip club. More like, someone is going to make money, and it's not you. It's the dancers...

I would buy lots of land in various parts of the world. The current Bored Empire consists of only the "Bored 40." Why I think I would have a "Bored Ranch" somewhere in the less crazy parts of Africa-Namibia maybe. LB could do a brand for the "Bored Ranch."

Who cares if the avatar wins, as long as BiT has the winning ticket? I'm right behind MBRS in line!

I thought BiT was going to share it out in manageable portions? $1,000,000 has always been a nice, round number.

The funny part about all this "lottery fever" coverage is that it feeds on itself, getting more people buying more tickets, which in turn drives up the jackpot and leads to more coverage. Here is a quick recap as to how it's played out.

After somebody hit the jackpot for $72 million, it started from scratch in the teens, and the regulars played as usual.

1/27/2012 12
1/31/2012 15

Now it's just a slow, steady build of $8-10 million per drawing as the lifers are joined by the once-in-a-whilers.

2/3/2012 23
2/7/2012 32
2/10/2012 41
2/14/2012 51
2/17/2012 61
2/21/2012 72
2/24/2012 83

Then, there's a bit of a boost before...
2/28/2012 94
3/2/2012 108

...everyone sees triple digits in the gas station window. Suddenly the jump become much more dramatic. I have to admit that I don't entirely understand the mindset where the prospect of a life-changing sum of money won't motivate you, but a slightly more life-changing sum of money will, but that's part of the reason I study human behavior.

3/6/2012 127
3/9/2012 148
3/13/2012 171
3/16/2012 200
3/20/2012 241
3/23/2012 290
3/27/2012 363 (and that was adjusted up once, I believe)

Today $540m (and that was adjusted up twice) A $177 million jump in three days. If nobody wins tonight or Tuesday, we could be looking at a billion dollar top prize.

Once again, I wish everyone the best of luck.

I think I've mentioned before that I don't have much contact with the people in my office any more, so I haven't been invited to enter the pool for lottery ticket purchases. My fear is that they'll win, retire en masse and leave me here to answer all the phones.

I am waiting to the last minute to buy a ticket since I don't have a pocket to keep it in.

One funny thing I've seen on the news and in the papers: People from Nevada are crossing into California and waiting for hours in line in order to gamble!

Well, on the other side is Utah, which is out of the question for lottery purchases.

I bet Georgia is slammed, since Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi aren't MegaMillions states.

Alaska and Hawaii don't have a convenient state nearby for their purchases...
