I'm not disagreeing about the pi question. There's a mnemonic for remembering the digits of pi--which I once memorized but have forgotten--but memorizing those digits is basically for the sake of saying you've memorized them. I doubt that ten96lt can name one actual instance where he needed to know that many digits of accuracy for a real life problem.

I was hoping for more specifics about the actual Agatha Christie question. Mini said all the choices are associated with her in one way or another, but none of them ring a bell with me.
The furthest I've memorized pi is 6 digits and the most numbers I've needed to use is 3 past the decimal, but I've seen competitions where people try to memorize that far and I've seen people that can go 50+ digits. In some math classrooms in school, I've see posters that show pi down to about 20 digits. The point is, it's an obscure piece of trivia that some people know, and a lot that don't which makes it a MDQ.

Wow, I really unleashed the mayhem with this post lol

And Bob, where's your MDQ for this thread? :P

Squirrels are the architects of forests, the planters of trees, nature's own acrobats and show a zest for life that can inspire us. Every day should be National Squirrel Appreciation Day!

Many of these (squirrel) migrations were probably caused by food shortages as well as habitat overcrowding. We solved that for them. We not only reduced their habitat, we reduced the whole species by about 90%. The least we can do now is share a little birdseed with them.

Pi trivia. Last week at one of the places I play bar trivia, there was a tie and the tiebreaker was determined by which team could give the most numbers (in order) of pi. I think the winning team got 5.
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

Which of these seemingly never-to-happen events will occur first?

A) I get an avatar (in the normal sense) from ES
B) The Cubs win the World Series
C) Millionaire gets smart contestants
D) LB catches a home run ball

This one's too easy. As usual, the correct answer is C. I personally know two Jeopardy TOC veterans who have been given tape dates for the new season. Maybe the new regime has a new casting philosophy this year. If not, at least two smart people slipped through the defenses.

I think it's easier to make questions now without the PaF who could Google it up in 30 seconds.

Okay, another "you know it or you don't" one:

Missouri got the nickname The Show Me State after an 1899 speech by whom?

A. Willard Vandiver
B. Lon Vest Stephens
C. Samuel Clemens
D. William Torrey Harris
Answer
Should I put the answer here, or let the Googlers do the very easy looking? :P I made sure to put in people associated with MO in 1899. I saw the speech once when I was thumbing through a Bartlett's and had the "aha!" moment...

Well, you said no PAF Googling! :P

I'll assume it's not Clemens, since his is the only name of the bunch that I recognize. So, I'll go with B:Someone else other than Clem.

Isn't Missouri also known as the 'Puke State'?
