#5: "Hiya Plasma Partner!"
Debuted: 9/8/09
Tennis Guy posted an article about a man who reached the 40 gallon mark for blood donation. Sprots made the mistake of saying she was working on her 16th gallon donated. That just opened up the door for ES to come up with this little avatar, one which not only got the usual reaction from Sprots, but had the doubly wonderful effect of actually being called out by several people on the Bored as really cute. And the key was in something I added merely as an afterthought..... the wave. It always amazes me what things people notice, both good and bad, in my drawings that I really didn't give much thought to... and this may be my favorite one of those little unexpected details. Fanny provided the line that became this avatar's title, and it was even used for the edition title of the rankings that week....

I was actually a bit surprised when I looked at my list this morning and saw that I only had this at #5. I coulda sworn I had it at #4........
But I do know what my order is for the rest of them now without peeking at my quickie ordering I did last week (And I haven't been peeking myself as I've been posting them each morning)......

Yeah!! What Dave said!!!1
I was just thinking yesterday that my three choices (want, should, will) hadn't shown up yet and there were only five to go.
Boom! Goes the Dynamite....
This was my Want choice. So, there's still Should Be and Will Be to go.

I had a feeling this was one of them..... I just didn't know if it was the Should or Want....
Well, they certainly couldn't have been 1-2-3 now, could they? That would have been too predictable.....

My three favorites have yet to show up.
Will they, or will I have to provide caustic commentary about every aspect of LB's life for the rest of his natural days?

I do have another one that I liked a lot that I didn't remember when I made my three choices, so I do have a Want Alternate in the wings....

There are so many I really liked that I couldn't include that I will probably do an extended honorable mention list on New Years Day. However, some favorites will also be missing because I grouped similar avatars together and chose just the best one or two to keep the countdown from looking repetitive....

The three I have left (after I added my new Want) are all entirely different, so it's quite possible that they will all three show up.

#4: "Together At the Stake"
Debuted: 7/25/09
After yet another round of Hooly bashing on the Bored, I had finally had enough of her taking the brunt of the criticism for our seemingly incessant and "annoying" posting on the Bored. So out came the "I Am Copernicus" thread, and along with it, this avatar showing ES standing with Hooly at the stake. Given the way I felt at the time, no avatar or maybe even any other kind of picture ever conveyed my feelings as well as this one did. And to top it all off with, I perfectly captured both characters in it. The terrified look on ES's face in this one plays well with the strong, brave stance of Hooly in it.....
I liked this one enough to keep it up an entire week at a time when I was changing avatars almost daily. Too bad I didn't realize at the time that this was just the beginning of the end. If I were to redraw that avatar today, it might look a bit more like this.......

Whew!! I did not want this to be #1, but feared it. As LB points out, reader reaction was favorable and widespread (except for yours truly, of course).
I'm safe now, this is the highest I'll be.
Thanks, LB!

#3: "The Squirrel Hula"
Debuted: 11/6/09
There are no squirrels in Hawaii, so says christie. Well, then it's about time we fix that says ES, and this avatar was born. Why exactly ES took the girls to Hawaii at this time when he was so looking forward to attending that Broncos game with Sprots that same weekend is a mystery, but this one was a keeper in my avatar for a good solid week. It was the first avatar to feature all three of my squirrel characters front and center, and I guess I loved this one even more than I thought because I'd have sworn I had this one at #5 on my list. Oh well, enjoy the luau for one more day this year and hopefully it will lull Sprots into a false sense of security that ES is far away from her when in reality..........

Awwww, man, these avatars are all flat and junk.....
Only two more to go, so I guess my three choices won't make it. Hazarding a guess, I'd say my alternate WANT will not be there although, after I remembered it, I thought for sure it would be.
I do like the Hawai'ian one, though. Whenever I see it I hear the ukelele music from Casino Island Blackjack on Pogo.
