In 2012, she told her husband that she was almost raped by someone who was now a federal judge. I think she named him to her husband but I don't remember. She first disclosed the incident to him (without details) when they first got married.
The evidence is solid that her account is not a recent invention.
Wrong. She said she told NO ONE until 2012, in therapy with her husband.
Here is my post with my comments about her original account.

Sure. He'd been appointed by a Republican President to the D.C. Circuit. That alone makes him a potential candidate for the next Republican President, particularly if you're afraid of him. And since 2012 was an election year, for all she knew Romney would win and get that opportunity within a year or two. --Bob

I don't think many Democrats thought that Romney would beat Obama.

I have listened to Dr. Ford's testimony. (I turned off the sound during the breaks. I don't want to hear what pundits have to say). She seems sincere. Aside from the grandstanding by the usual suspects, I would like to see Mark Judge subpeonaed and hear what he knows. But let's hear what Kavanaugh has to say. He will probably say he is 100% sure he didn't do it. So here we are.
I don't think the usual suspects will be as gracious to him.

Just listened to the past ten minutes or so of Kavanaugh's statement. Wish I had gotten to hear Dr. Ford.
It is odd to me that he is crying but not crying. Like, I know crying when I am angry. I get that. But when I do it, there are tears.
This display makes me wonder if this is the person we want listening to important cases from a position of being dispassionate.
It is just odd. It does make me think he really does think he is innocent, but we all tend to make ourselves the hero of our own narrative.
The part about how he still loves beer was odd, too.
Changing the channel. This is just horribly uncomfortable.

Today was not the best day for me to be in an all day seminar, so I missed Dr. Ford's testimony. I did catch Lindsay Graham's outburst. I wish someone had asked him if he voted for Merrick Garland.
Two things did strike me:
At one point, when they asked Kavanaugh about a character in Mark Judge's book, the answer was "you'll have to ask Mark Judge." Which no one will have an opportunity to do so, unless the Republicans change their minds.
Kavanaugh kept referring to how he was first or second in his class and played varsity sports in answer to a lot of questions. That seems to me like Bill Cosby defending himself by saying he was the most trusted man in America.

I think he wants to say: You get an FBI investigation, you will make this more of a vindictive, disgusting character assassination than it currently is, which would be hard to do. And you will drag my friends and those of Dr. Ford's through the same kind of shit you have already dragged us through. I don't trust you, sir.
But he can't say that. I can, though.

He won't answer whether he wants Judge to testify. He won't answer whether he wants an FBI investigation. I understand why he's not answering those questions -- his answer is that he doesn't want these things but he can't say that because not wanting them makes him look guilty -- but refusing to answer has pretty much the same effect. If he were sitting as a trial judge, he'd never allow a witness to get away with those evasions. --Bob

In response to Skoop:
I did see a lot of Dr. Ford's testimony and it did make me think she truly believes she was assaulted, but when we have ongoing relationship issues we tend to search through our past for reasons or explanations, sometimes adding to our history things that had they happened might cause our current struggles because it can't be as simple as we are personally flawed.

Actually why he is not answering the questions is because whether he does or doesn't desire those things is irrelevant to what the hearing is about. If he were a sitting trial judge he would sustain opposing counsel's objection as to relevance.

The courts don't decide Supreme Court nominations and by her own account (which is consistent with her behavior), she never wanted to take this public at all. Private citizens don't get to decide to bring criminal charges. I don't know whether the Maryland statute of limitations for civil suits prevents her from suing Kavanaugh for events that are 35 years old. --Bob
