Well, you're not going to find one where you're sitting now!
Too true. But, well, I'm just not there yet.

Butt well? Is that a name for something?
Well, then

Just another name for a pew.

You're brilliant. I find it a marvelous coincidence that I posted that and you successfully defined it. You wanna go on the road? I would be the straight man. Person.

I go to church most Sunday mornings, but sometimes I don't. I also have the whole family over for lunch on Sundays. Keeps me pretty busy on Sunday morning, but we love it and it keeps us up to date on what is happening in everyone's lives.

The younger kids really look forward to it and are disappointed when we don't get together. This week we've having an evening meal instead of lunch to accommodate those who couldn't make the noon meal.

Emma had a friend spend the night. They only stayed up until midnight.

We are going to the movies. They are going to see The Dark Knight. (Emma is seeing it a second time because her friend wants to see it) while Jeff, Maddie and I are going to see Hamlet 2.

Like - I wonder what has people do that.

I know there has to be a reason and some value, I just haven't heard what that is for myself.
Undoubtedly there are people who go for the wrong reasons -- fear, convention, appearances, social advantage. But there is a very real value for many of us. It's just hard to explain to somebody who doesn't share that value.

My pastor was saying only this morning that you can find God anywhere. But faith can be much more meaningful when shared with a community.

Heck, even something as trivial as being a fan of a game show can be a richer experience when you share it with a community. How much truer that can be when even deeper values and issues are involved.

I'll pay you with the whole pig butt. I'm a generous person like that.

A big REC for Frank.

We have a perfectly nice Catholic parish down the road. Several of my cousins on dad's side of the family belong there. They love it but they also had children go through the parish school and have a real sense of the community there.

When I moved back to Philadelphia from DC, I started back at TLAF's parish.

A couple of years later, something told me to give money to the CYO at St. Malachy's through the United Way.

I received a wonderful thank you note from Father McNamee, the pastor. I went there to introduce myself.

At my first Mass, I was so struck by the sense of love and joy in the congregation that I became a parishoner. I was home.

Boonie and Father Mac tease each other constantly.

Here's something I found on Father Mac. Also, if you can pick up a copy of that issue of St. Anthony's messenger, it's also fine reading.

Father Mac retired from "active duty" (day to day running the parish) but still lives at the rectory.

Beautifully explained, Frank. You should consider writing!

Well, I helped out at communion this morning. You've got to do stuff to help out with the service from time to time if you're physically able at the Lutheran church that we go to and you're married to my wife.

We do communion at every service. Back when I was a good Methodist, we just did that on the first Sunday of the month and other special occasions, and we never had the opportunity as a lay person to get seconds.

We have a lot of wonderful old people in our smallish congregation. That's the best thing about it, for me.

Anyway, you can't say that this atheist was too lazy to go to church today.
