No outside sources allowed. Just take your best guess.

ANSWERS

1. Cobb Salad was a signature dish of what landmark Hollywood restaurant?

The Brown Derby. I gave Rexer half credit for the Hollywood Derby. Like T-Bone, I've tried the Cobb Salad at WDW's copy of this restaurant. Having all the ingredients minced so finely seemed odd, to me.

2. In 1932, Walt Disney released what short film (not featuring Mickey Mouse!) that was the first to be filmed in full-color Technicolor and would win the first Academy Award for Best Short Subjects: Cartoons?

Flowers and Trees. Bob Juch provides his first and only answer in this month's QOD, on a question everyone else was missing; for this performance, he is now awarded the coveted Cellar position! But his glory for getting this WWOQ must be shared with T-Bone, who answered a little later. :)

Frogman gets half credit for his answer; Flowers and Trees was one of the Silly Symphonies series.

3. Baron Takeichi Nishi won a gold medal in equestrian show jumping at the 1932 Olympics. His death during World War II was depicted
in what 2006 film, directed by Clint Eastwood?

Letters from Iwo Jima. This was a tricky 50/50. Flags of our Fathers tells the story of the battle from the American perspective and does not include the actor who portrayed Baron Nishi. Letters tells the Japanese side of the story.

Sands of Iwo Jima was the earlier movie, starring John Wayne.

4. It is traditional for the host country's head of state to officially open the Olympic games, but Herbert Hoover did not do so in 1932. Instead, the vice president did so. Who was this 31st Vice President of the United States?

Charles Curtis. WWOQ #2, with honors to Nelly, AJ, wintergreen, Fanny and Annie for getting it.

Alf Landon wasn't a bad guess. Besides being the presidential nominee in 1936, we was the governor of Kansas, while Curtis had been a Senator (and Senate Majority Leader) from Kansas.

The WWOQs certainly did their job--no perfect scores today! Now if I ease up just a little bit, we might have a normal bell curve. :)
