Two of the ones in my town are ranked 3526. They must REALLY suck...minimetoo26 wrote:Since the place near me is ranked about 2863, and there's only 3000 bars, I can assume they really specialize in KARAOKE...ulysses5019 wrote:Most NTN places don't advertise. I used to play a lot but now I only play Showdown on Tuesdays with some gals I met down in Newport, though my home bar is still Shannons in Long Beach.

One sappy Vienna sausage coming up!
My Day in the hills has come to an end
I know
A Star has come out, to tell me it's time
to go
But deep in the dark green shadows
Are voices that urge me to stay
So I stop and I wait and I listen
For one more sound, for one more lovely thing
that the hills might say
The hills are alive with the sound of music
The songs they have sung for a thousand years
The hills fill my heart with the sound of music
My heart wants to sing every song it hears
My heart wants to beat like the wings of the birds
That rise from the lake to the trees
My heart wants to sigh like the chimes
That flies from a church on a breeze
To laugh like a brook when it trips
And falls over stone on its way
To sing through the night
Like a lark who is learning to pray
I'll go to the hills when my heart is lonely
I know I will hear what I've heard before
My heart will be blessed with the sound of music
And I'll sing once more
I know
A Star has come out, to tell me it's time
to go
But deep in the dark green shadows
Are voices that urge me to stay
So I stop and I wait and I listen
For one more sound, for one more lovely thing

Their QB game has a prize at the end of the season for the player with the most points at the end of the season. It was a pick-up truck, or at it used to be.Here's Fanny! wrote:Is there money to be won? Otherwise no prizes. Just the proverbial pat on the back and bragging rights. Just ask bobjuch.

I haven't had an interview yet but I'm hoping they find it amusing rather than just sheltered and sad. I have zero desire to see the movie. I can't believe it's one of the most successful movies of all time.MarleysGh0st wrote:What!?!?juliea344 wrote:Unfortunately that wouldn't have helped either. Not for me, then. I can play Sploofus games for that (I've been surprised that people have emailed and congratulated me when I get a good score on something or get a WTHAI puzzle right) and I don't even have to leave the house. Besides, it's uphill both ways.ulysses5019 wrote:Their QB game has a prize at the end of the season for the player with the most points at the end of the season. Generally not, although they do do contests were supposedly there are cash prizes - based on the in-between buzztime/ntn ads they show - I've never tried that and you need to register. If I'm not mistaken you register at a location that has it and it is only valid at that location - if you go somewhere else you need to register there or just play unregistered. I don't know the rules for winning cash prizes, but they do offer them. Here's Fanny! wrote:Is there money to be won? I used to play a lot but now I only play Showdown on Tuesdays with some gals I met down in Newport, though my home bar is still Shannons in Long Beach.
In addition, some local establishments offer their own contests - free beer to the high scorer. When I was going out to the Reston, VA area there was a 6 week stint that each Tuesday they offered a free diner ($25 gift certificate) for the high scorer for the night - I was able to get a couple of free meals out of them. Some places also do trivia teams/clubs and there might be some prizes that they offer, usually gift cards.
I did it only occasionally in the past - either if I was away from home for business I would go once in a while, but once I got the call for the show I started going more frequently - figuring it was good practice since it was timed, multiple-choice and covered a wide range of topics.
So, in essence most people play for bragging rights - but you might be able to get a few dollars or free stuff as well - don't plan on trying to make a living playing it, though.
Finally, my experience is that it is much more fun to play at a locale that there is at least some other players. Otherwise it is closer to a sploofus experience with the exception that you don't get to pick/know the categories.
