Thanks Rexer,Rexer25 wrote:You don't have to be sorry for anything, Julie. You surely won't agree with the fact that they must have gone through the public directories and invited anyone/everyone with a celebrity name. However, don't fault them too much. I only received the card a couple days ago and the date is 8/5. I am thinking that maybe they didn't get a tremendous response to the "famous names" call for applications and had to enact a plan B. I could be wrong, but for most people receiving a cold solicitation, 3 weeks is not much notice.
I am only responding to the postcard because a good friend of mine was also on the show and won $64K before the format change. He talks about what a great experience it was all the time and when I showed him the postcard he really encouraged me to go for it.
Sorry
Do you mind telling us if you live in the NYC area?
I hope you do well on the test, and take 'em for a million!
I am in NY but way on the other side of the state. I will be flying in for a couple of days and making a little trip out of it. That way if I don't make the show at least I had some fun, I hope!

Sounds like Marley has a new 'bored' neighbor. And Buff has someone to visit on his trips to Buffalo. w00t! - w00t in honor of my geeky avatarjuliea344 wrote:Thanks Rexer,Rexer25 wrote:You don't have to be sorry for anything, Julie. I think the pool is more limited by the number of people who will schlep to NYC on their own dime for an outside shot of getting a postcard that will give them an outside shot at getting to come back to NYC (once again on their own dime) than it is by a lack of people with famous names.gsabc wrote:I'm more annoyed than outraged. TPTB, rather than admit that this particular theme week idea wasn't working and putting the applicants to date into the regular pool of contestants (as they did with some of the College Week interviewees), decided to seek out by whatever means people with famous names and directly solicit their participation. Just face up to the fact that it wasn't such a good idea after all, folks, and move on. Don't try to force it.
This is not personal, juliea344, and I hope you manage to get through the test and the interview and then on the show. It just seems to me like TPTB goofed, probably by not realizing how limited the "famous names" pool really is, but refuses to give up the idea.
Spoiler
I'm darned good and ready.

The pool of famous-name people who will do the NYC (or any other audition site) shlepping is even smaller. Here's Fanny! wrote:I think the pool is more limited by the number of people who will schlep to NYC on their own dime for an outside shot of getting a postcard that will give them an outside shot at getting to come back to NYC (once again on their own dime) than it is by a lack of people with famous names.gsabc wrote:I'm more annoyed than outraged. Sorry, Julie, yes it was me who was responsible for leading you into the lions den (although it strikes more like a kittens den trying to pretend its a lions den). Ever since I stumbled in here its been a fun place to hang out and I've met some great folks - and as the folks from MasterCard would say - the advice is priceless.
When you say you are from the other end of the state do you mean the great 'Nickel City' or up north in the Adorondacks or even closer to Erie, PA? If you do hail from beautiful Boofalo - and if you will be in NYC this weekend - could I trouble you to bring in some extra-hot doubles from the Anchor Bar - and/or anything from Antoinettes - even a Beef-On-Weck would do?

I don't watch much GSN, but I had it on yesterday to watch the Jason Block special, then left it on until I went to bed, which meant that around 2:30 a.m. I walked into the room and saw an old black and white show from the 1950s called "The Name's The Same." As near as I could tell, it was a standard celebrity panel show like "What's My Line" but each "contestant" had a famous name. The celebrity panel would keep asking questions in order to try to figure out the person's name, by asking about the more famous person who had the same name. I came in a little late for one intro, but there was a young blonde gal who apparently was known as "Rocky Marciano."
Maybe WWTBAM could look up some former contestants from "Name's The Same" and get them to be in the hot seat... if any of them are still alive.

Re: famous names week?
Welcome to the Bored! Have you determined your audition date, yet? I'd love to add you to the Audition List. --Bobjuliea344 wrote:Hi everyone,
I'm new here thanks to (I think) Frogman posting the link on another board. I received a postcard encouraging me to try out for famous names week. I never would have thought to try out for WWTBAM in a million years but now that I got the postcard I'm doing it. I don't think I've slept since making the decision. I'm a nervous wreck, but these boards have been very helpful. I am hoping there won't be that many people with famous names for them to choose from![]()
My question: Everyone says studying the old transcripts is a great way to prepare for the test. Do they actually pull old questions for the audition test or is studying the old transcripts just a good way to get your brain in gear?
Thanks!!
