Thanks, kids!! I'll definitely be keeping up to date with all of you - am honored to be a guinea pig in the ever-elusive second interview inquisition, and welcome any and all advice. Postcard watch will be a good excuse to flirt with the mailman on a daily basis. Yup, this was my first try; did attempt that finger thing back in the day, and never could get through...

Still chuckling from all the comments. And let's see that photo!!!

I just wanted to say Hi. I was also at the Sacramento audition on June 23rd. I passed the general test but not the movie one (I KNEW I wouldn't pass that one)

I did get the "second interview" in front of the camera, but I have this feeling that I might have blown it there because all of a sudden I got really nervous and started rambling and talking really fast!

I'll be anxiously awaiting my mail lady everyday for the next couple of weeks!

And Second Chance, that "no way" was very spontaneous and made us all giggle!

BTW, I just found this site while in search of any possible clue as to my chances of getting actually chosen to get into the hotseat. Thanks for all the info you guys post.

Many of these (squirrel) migrations were probably caused by food shortages as well as habitat overcrowding. We solved that for them. We not only reduced their habitat, we reduced the whole species by about 90%. The least we can do now is share a little birdseed with them.

hee, hee - you're a good detective, mom2. I was honestly flabbergasted. Were you one of us filling out questionaires in the lobby? Anyway, don't fret, i bet they like fast talkers - it's a short show!

Hey Second Chance!

I'm pretty sure we spoke to each other in Jackson while we were waiting for the first interviews. I was sitting one away from you in the line of chairs (pink jacket, black sundress).

I think you will be fine! You passed both tests and did the "No Way" comment when the results were read. I think that helped you stand out in their minds. Perhaps that was all they needed to have a good impression of you.

Probably not nearly as many times as some of the BBs, but I have gone to at least five, all in CA. Traveled a bit for three, the others were in my neck of the woods. No $$$ to go further so this is the first time in about five years.

Winnamill, were you at the San Jose audition about 5 or so years ago. My sister traveled from DFW to San Jose for an audition and think she mentioned meeting someone going by your name. Of course, that was 5-6 years ago and I could be totally wrong about the name and time, but for sure it was in San Jose.

Sacto Audition

#39 Post by winegreg » Mon Jun 30, 2008 11:39 am

I too was at the Jackson Rancheria auditions (first group, I-75), heard the now infamous "No Way!", only made it into the regular group, not the "Movie Madness" group, and only got the quickie interview. I should mention (since nobody has so far) that regular includes the engaged couples week (whether straight or gay), the three generations week (grandparent, parent and child all have to pass the test at the same audition), as well as the day to day episodes. BTW, holding the auditions in Jackson and calling it Sacramento is like holding them in the Catskills and calling it New York. I'm probably cursed, cuz this is my firfth audition (San Diego, San Jose (with Bob Shore, shared a pizza), Boise ID, Sunnyvale and now Jackson) passed the test every time, interviewed, and never got a card. Oh well, I'll still wait by the mailbox for the next three weeks.

Just out of curiosity, did you see a lot of three generation families pass the test?

In Atlanta, one in our group passed. Grandma, mom, daughter. They were the only generations contestants trying out. They were interviewed forever (for the entirety of the 10 minutes I was waiting for mine) and then sent off to be taped right as I was called for my own.

I heard there were generations contestants in the 1st audition group, and that at least some were taped.

3 Generations

#42 Post by winegreg » Mon Jun 30, 2008 5:26 pm

No, I don't think there were any there, in our group. There were some questions directed at the APs if the missing members could take the test later (No), and whether a couple married 30-some years could still be considered for the engaged couples week (NO!), and if, when the show called and they didn't like the date given, could they choose another date? (NO, NO, NO!!!), and if they were the carry-over contestant, did WWTBAM pay for them to stay in New York ( that would be no).

But if you're the carryover and there is a significant break between tape dates, like a week or two, don't they pick up the tab for the return trip? Asking questions like this is, at best, putting the cart before the horse. At worst, it just gives TPTB another reason to send you a sad postcard.

Good to see you on this board, winegreg.

I'm not being unaffirmative, they were, (and I could tell they were tired of hearing the same whiney questions day after day). As to the question of a significant break in taping, someone asked almost exactly that question, and IIRC, they said you would be welcome to hang arround NY on your own tab, or go home and come back, also on your own tab. If you didn't show up again, you blew your chance, and the tape of your first day would be edited out. Their big present to you is just letting you on the show, don't push for percs.

I would gladly come down as a stand-by contestant and keep coming back day after day until a string of disappointing runs opened up a slot. :|

I think they make an effort to get out of towners on the show quickly. I was on the second show after a couple carryovers (locals) were on first.

Hi, Winegreg! I remember meeting you along with some others, at the Boise auditions. Glad to see you are still fighting the good fight. Best of luck!

My first tape date was on a Wednesday, and they had so many carry overs from the previous day that 80% of my group had to carry over to the next tape date. Except that wasn't the next day...Thursday was "couples week" day and they don't generally tape on Fridays or Mondays. So the next tape date was Tuesday, almost a full week! And there were some out of towners, one from TX who decided to make a long weekend of it in DC. But it was all definitely on our own, luckily I'm from CT and while it was a minor irritation to drive there again and pay for another night in a hotel, it was nothing compared to what other people I'm sure shell out to go there.

Yes, I was at the San Jose audition that was technically in Sunnyvale. Can't think of the name of the hotel offhand, but I only live a few miles from it. That was the last time I auditioned. Thought it went well, but nothing came of it. :( What is your sister's name? I barely remember yesterday so I'm not sure I would put it together, but I did meet up with another BB or two for dinner the night before the test (one was Barb, I believe, and went on to be on the show).

I have higher hopes for this round as I did get a second round with the video camera. If it is a sad face this time, it will most likely be the end of the line at least as far as traveling out of the area goes. Don't know what else I can do to convince them.
