My cousin just reminded me that she and several generations of her family (including in-laws) saw Regis and Joy Philbin live in 2010 at Philadelphia's Mann Music Center in Fairmount Park.

They were there when the Philbins helped kick off the 75th year of Live Music in the Park. The Philbins narrated Peter and the Wolf with The Philadelphia Orchestra.

A grand time was had by all, including Regis and Joy.

Not a bad stickball player, to boot.

He just flat out made the show...who can forget "the Big Chalupa." Half the reason I was so hot to get on the show was to meet him--dang.

When WWTBAM first aired in the summer of '99-Mrs S mentioned it to me-I kind of turned up my nose because all I knew about Regis was that he had some sort of talk show-I had never watched it (or him) or anything else he was in.

To me, he was just a random celebrity, however, suffice it to say-I tuned in and life changed.

RIP Regis

This week, Jeopardy is doing a retrospective of "best" celebrity episodes from the past. The episodes had been selected a while ago, but today's episode features Regis Philbin, along with Carol Burnett and Donna Mills.

Nothing was phony about him, what you saw was genuinely him.
This was my first thought after reading of his passing.

I will always remember him taking me by surprise when he came up behind me and introduced himself before we were to go take our places in the Ring of Fire. I think he got a kick out of startling me like that. I will also remember, the first time I was on, how he made a point of coming over to me after the show was done taping to sort of console me and remind me that I could always try again once I was eligible to do so. He spent a fair amount of time with me which was pretty cool I thought. I, of course, did get back on during the anniversary episodes but had the same result. And he again came over to give me a pat on the back.

RIP Reege.

I really have nothing to add to the encomiums that have been posted here. My life was certainly changed by my appearance on WWTBAM and my experience in the studio interacting with Regis was wonderful - he came out and introduced himself to each of us in the Hot Seat, made fun of one of the contestants' names, told a couple of jokes, and did his best to make us all feel at ease. My unique memory, however, is after my first taping, as the credits were rolling, I mentioned that my shirt and tie had come from the Regis collection, and he actually flipped my tie over to make sure the label verified my claim.
