No one looks at that side of the envelope, as they have to deal with the seal, which is on the other side (on the flap). You could see him looking in the envelope as if he thought another slip might be in it. Well, we now have another Oscars gaffe, and this one can be blamed, at least in part, on Jimmy Kimmel.
During the show, they brought a group of people from a local tour bus out in front of the crowd. Perhaps the most visible of them was a man later identified as "Gary from Chicago," who, along with his fiancée, had their picture taken with Denzel Washington (who "married" them on the spot).
Well, it turns out that Gary has just gotten out of the slammer after serving 20 years on various felonies. Some of these must have been sexual in nature, since he's also a registered sex offender. Gary now claims he's got his life in order.
