In a way, I don't blame President Pena Nieto for denying it. (How do I make the tilde render?) He's got an awful lot of pissed Mexican citizens to deal with and I'm guessing that admitting the threat would make it politically impossible for him to cooperate with the United States in pretty much any way for the remainder of Donny's tenure. And notably, he has not yet released his transcript of the phone call. So until and unless AP retracts its story, I'll stick with the reporters over the politicians. --BobBeebs52 wrote:Bob78164 wrote:Nobody with any experience in how things in the real world work would have threatened to invade Mexico, particularly in a call with the President of Mexico. You approach Pelosi in staggeringly weird statements.Bob78164 wrote:In a way, I don't blame President Pena Nieto for denying it. (How do I make the tilde render?) I'll make it simple. The President of Mexico has a powerful motivation to falsely deny that the threat occurred. Donny hasn't denied the transcript's accuracy, the Mexican government hasn't released a transcript of the call despite demands to do so, and AP is standing by its story. I believe AP. --BobBeebs52 wrote:You approach Pelosi in staggeringly weird statements.

Far be it from me to defend Trump but only that one portion of the transcript was leaked, so it's impossible to know exactly what context the comments occurred in (or what the tone of voice of the leaders was either). And it's not up to either Trump or Nieto to release the transcript of phone calls like this. There's a reason these phone calls take place in private.Bob78164 wrote:I'll make it simple. The greater concern, as I've noted in another thread, is who's doing the leaking of a whole lot of sensitive information less than two weeks into Trump's administration. And, if this type of information is getting out to the press, other, even more sensitive information could be getting out to other people who have no business having it. For all those concerned about the Russians or whoever getting into Hillary's e-mails, it seems like everything Trump says or does behind White House closed doors is now subject to coming out in the open, probably by his own "trusted" people.

And, again, it wouldn't be unheard of for the military, after the fact, to try to deflect the blame for a botched operation by pinning it on the person who authorized it. Again, it's the leaking that concerns me more than the blame passing here.Bob78164 wrote: This is U.S. military officials, who pretty much had to be in the room when the decision was made.
I hate to burst your bubble (not really). But as citizens, we owe it to our military to be sure our government uses them both appropriately and competently.

Aw, c'mon Steve. You remember how often such leaks occurred from the Obama Administration. --Bobsilverscreenselect wrote:And, again, it wouldn't be unheard of for the military, after the fact, to try to deflect the blame for a botched operation by pinning it on the person who authorized it. Regarding the leaks. They are not coming from conservatives, but the leftover liberals. Just a reference point in the morality of those providing the leaks.Bob78164 wrote:Aw, c'mon Steve. You don't know that. And neither do I. Unless your definition of "conservative" requires blind deference to Donnie, in which case I guess your point is tautologically true. --BobBackInTex wrote:Regarding the leaks. You're right. I don't know that and you don't know that. But a lack of knowledge has not prevented you from posting your opinions (or hopes) as facts. I'm just following your lead.Bob78164 wrote:You don't know that. And neither do I. Senior defense officials are telling NBC News that they have seen no evidence the raid resulted in actionable intelligence. Press Secretary Spicer disagreed, but we already know that he's willing to lie on behalf of the Administration. That's part of the price he pays for squandering his credibility. --Bob
