Since Harry Reid can compliment a certain then-candidate as "light-skinned and well spoken," or Joe Biden can talk about "looking clean" for that same then-candidate, why should SSS be held accountable when he inserts his foot in his orifice for a racist remark?

I didn't say that. A lot of conservatives couldn't care less about racial issues. Their main concerns are economic issues and they vote for candidates on that basis. But their candidates know what they have to do to win elections: get out their base and depress the other party's base. And they use racially charged issues to accomplish both of those a good bit of the time.

One would think that if liberals like me, Harry Reid, and Joe Biden were all closet racists and conservatives were fair minded egalitarians that minority voters (very many of whom have experienced actual racial prejudice in ways that whites will never experience) would recognize this and start to vote Republican in increasing numbers. But Republicans never get more than about 10% of the black vote, and their percentage of the Hispanic and Asian votes have gone down in recent years.

Well, I would imagine you are at least the bare minimum amount of racist that every single person who has lived their life in this country is... which would be racist on the subconscious level. With the way we go on and on and on and on and on about racial differences (while striving for equality, go fig),. it's impossible for anyone not to have their views affected by it on some level. Until we can eliminate all talk of racial differences, including the mere discussion of this incident (or the Ferguson incident, or the OJ Simpson case) on racial terms, we will perpetuate the very racism that we are trying so hard to eliminate...

I also think the thing some are trying to get across is that a prevalent theme put forth constantly is that "conservatives" are inherently racist, put forth by " liberals" and that when examples of that "racist" rhetoric is exhibited by the judgmental "liberals" they won't own it as a mistake, slip of tongue, or actual "racist" talk.
