Agreed on The Beautiful South--eh. I thought Pebbles was just one girl but then I saw the video for Mercedes Boy and it was 3 girls, only they tried to avoid showing one up close since she was rather unfortunate-looking. Video Killed the Radio Star indeed...

Huh.... that's news to me. I had no idea Pebbles was a group. Kind of like Jethro Tull and Pablo Cruise surprised me before....

Pebbles is not really a group but it's the girl Pebbles with other girls singing as well. And she apparently did backup for Paula Abdul which doesn't surprise me in the least since they're so similar!

I thought maybe Bam Bam was in the group too....

Me breaking TBone's consecutive game record would be the equivalent of Craig Paquette passing Cal Ripken, but I'm going to try for it.

I've thumbed through about 34127837133 notebooks looking for the one I used as my 2008 LSWE scoresheet and can't find it!

I'll keep looking....

elwood's mark currently stands at 210 consecutive LSWE games played (as of yesterday's game). He played the final four games in 2008, and has had perfect attendance ever since. So far as I can tell, the next longest active streak belongs to vandal, who has played every game since the start of the 2010 season, and since he's already played today, that gives him a streak of 157 consecutive games played...

It should be noted that Fanny had a streak of 200 consecutive games before she missed 2 games in a row earlier this year...

So let's say that the longest LSWE streaks are:

1. TBone (12/31/07 - 3/1/13) - 250 games
2. elwood (2/26/08 - 3/4/13) - 210 games (current)
3. Fanny (2/15/08 - 2/7/13) - 200 games
4. vandal (1/4/10 - 3/5/13) - 157 games (current)
5. Panic (1/5/09 - 3/11/11) - 150 games

Btw, I remember missing that Valentine's Day game, which I'm fairly certain was the first game I ever missed but I had no idea that was FIVE years ago! Had I taken a guess I would have said two, maybe three years ago. I'm sofa king old.....
It's the Final Countdown.....

Pebbles? WtF is Pebbles? Since when is the credited artist a girl-band cover of the original??? I'm sure Annie C. eyelid-messaged The Beautiful South...

And I was so surprised and impressed you had included TBS that I started to write about it and forgot to list "untrue."

You're gonna have to 'splain to me what you mean by girl-band cover version of the original, because my research shows that TBS (who I had never heard of until I read your answers) released their version in 1989, and Pebbles' version is from 1987. The two people who wrote the song sing backup in the Pebbles version (Girlfriend was originally written for Vanessa Williams, so says the ever reliable Wikipedia)....

Pebbles also took the song to #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. I can't believe KROQ missed this gem of the late 80's!!!!1

Holy crap! It's the only song on TBS album that they didn't write. I guess I haven't read the liner notes since 1989. It's weird that the lyrics fit so well with the rest of the album. It's one of the prettiest-sounding albums ever with songs about such sad (and even macabre) subjects.

The song in question (this Anime video is all I could find):
Girlfriend

Others from "Welcome to the Beautiful South"

The Beautiful South - You Keep It All in (Original Video)

The Beautiful South - From Under the Covers

The Beautiful South - Song for Whoever (1989) - Top of The Pops 08-06-1989

The Beautiful South - Have You Ever Been Away?

The really creepy one:
The Beautiful South - Woman in the Wall (original version)

The Beautiful South - Welcome to the Beautiful South (1989) Full Album
(If you go to the actual YouTube page, it is indexed by song there)

I just remembered that Paul Heaton (of TBS and The Housemartins) is the third singer on this charity project from last year. There may be some others you recognize. I don't see Pebbles. :)
