LB gives me way too much credit. It was the audience reaction to my re-post, not anything I said, because I mentioned MBRS as a lagniappe, not the main reason for its attraction to me. Mainly, it was the power to invoke Pea and Clem's success in a major undertaking in such a well-done and humorous way that made this one such a hit with me.littlebeast13 wrote:#17: "Run Clem Run!!"

Of all the avatars Sprots campaigned for before the countdown, this is the only one she can proudly claim to have vaulted into the Top 20. As great a feat as that was, it was nothing compared to what the avatar was drawn to celebrate... clem's successful completion of the NYC Marathon. Despite his trademark shoes and the wrong bib number, clem managed to huff and puff his way to the finish line thanks to the bareback riding MBRS and her bullwhip of terror. While that's what made this one great for Sprots, for me it was the addition of the groupies in the corner of the picture.... without whose support, love, and affection we are sure clem would not have persevered....

Audience reaction which would have remained unposted had it not been for your efforts to stir up said reaction....
But that's OK, you can save your victory speeches for all the wonderful Sprots & ES avatars to come.....

#16: "Water For Beebs"
Debuted: 6/20/11

Back in June, I had a minor crisis on my hands when one morning my washer decided that it didn't want to drain, leaving my clothes stuck in a washer full of standing soapy water. BiT recommended siphoning it out, which I had never done before, and BobJuch gave me a practical way to apply it with my garden hose. After the crisis was resolved, the idea of me siphoning water out onto my front lawn while poor Beebs was drying up down in Texas came together in the form of this avatar of ES getting an extra long hose to siphon his nasty water 700 miles south to Beebs front lawn. Beebs doesn't look too happy with the gift of H2O and poor Merv looks like he's about ready to turn into one of those desert skulls. The fusion of ideas and the execution of the expressions were more than enough to guarantee this one a spot in the countdown. I believe this may be the only avatar I've ever drawn to incorporate three different Bored four-footers as well....

#15. "Evil Quixote"
Debuted: 2/2/11

One of my favorite avatar ideas of the year was brought to fruition by that famous Bored double play combo of christie to suitguy to Sliver. Christie's heat went out, which prompted tmitsss to.... well read how it came to be for yourselves. This is another avatar that is all about the combination of ideas that brought it about (The broken windmill, ES & Lizbit's personalities, the infamous Don Quixote scene) and the execution of image itself. ES and Lizbit would make a great Pinky and the Brain, or maybe Beavis & Butthead. While this was not the first ES & Lizbit avatar ever drawn, it was the first of several that appeared this year pairing up ES with his true partner in crime. This one just barely got the nod over "Combat!", but in an ideal world, there would be room for both in the countdown....

#14. "Wheeeeeee!!!!!""
Debuted: 6/12/11

Another avatar that was a fun mesh of different ideas, though in this case, neither of them were known to the Bored at large. I was getting a lot of groups of kids in my department buying large quantities of cheap toilet paper, and was wondering if TP'ing had suddenly come back into vogue. To accompany my question, I drew upon a discussion me and Fanny had in chat a few nights earlier, where we were discussing how I always keep the bathroom door shut so the cats can't get in and unravel the toilet paper. Fanny's suggestion that I could avoid that by hanging the roll the other way only drew laughs from me.... she obviously underestimated the late Spilly. Her response to that became the title of this avatar, and inspired the entire scene. As I mentioned in my anthology, this avatar, which was drawn 4 months after Spilly had died, is such a wonderful tribute to my favorite psycho cat. Life was never dull when Spilly Boy was around....

#13: "WE WANT MATIAS!!!!"
Debuted: 1/11/11

The tone for the year was set early when Sprots decided she would no longer grace the Bored with avatars featuring ES's favorite real-life assistant Matias... simply because she thought there were too many avatars of ES attempting to win her affection (As if there could EVER be enough of those!). So after the ultimatum was handed out, I drew out the Bored's frustration at being punished over something so silly by conjuring up the angry village mob! Pitchforks and torches descended upon Castle Sprots in the dead of night, yet she remained true to her word and kept Matias out of the Bored's view until a brief appearance by Matias and his new sister just days before the countdown. While that means there will be no Matias avatars in this year's countdown, it did help expand ES's universe to new limits, much to the betterment of the ES avatar experience. That doesn't mean it would be a bad thing to have a Matias and ES avatar in the 2012 countdown....

#12: "Appleocalypse"
Debuted: 11/8/11

On Monday November 7th, silvercamaro said, "Over the weekend, Oklahoma had multiple earthquakes. Today, we are having multiple tornadoes. Tomorrow is a new day, so perhaps we can find a new affliction to keep things interesting."
The thought for this avatar came to me instantly, but I was on the laptop in chat so the ES punchline would have to wait until the morning. Mother Nature could throw all the catastrophes she wanted to at Oklahoma, but she has nothing on ES's apple throwing skills. Not only did this get a great positive response on the Bored, but SC further stamped her approval by stating how perfectly it captures exactly how both of her dogs would react to the Appleocalypse.

Thanks, LB. I do like this one a lot, and it would have been rated even higher, if I had been in charge of the ranking. I love that all three of us have such distinctive expressions -- annoyance, defiance, and terror. (Unseen is the mocking smirk on the face of that damnable little pri-- . . . I mean, squirrel . . . in the tree.) Furthermore, "The Appleocalypse" is the best avatar title ever, hands down.
