Out of Africa, for a nonmusical. I have goose bumps hearing the main theme in my head. I have not listened to the soundtrack in at least 15 years, or seen the movie since it was released in '84 or '85, but that theme doesn't go away if you want to keep hold of it. John Barry has similar themes in the soundtrack to High Road to China, released a few years earlier. I don't necessarily recommend the movie, which is more predictable adventure with Tom Selleck (Indiana Jones-style plot), but in the soundtrack, you can hear Barry working out some of the themes for Out of Africa.

Huh. Just looked him up. He won Oscars for the song and score for Born Free. Nice.

That was what I loved about the now-defunct Napster. I downloaded so many soundtracks and old songs that are simply not available in the stores anymore.

I was quite sick in 1993 and had told one of my son's friends who worked in a record store to look for Once Upon a Time in America and he happened to find it for me just as I was on the mend. It was so inspirational for me and the best purchase I ever made. I then was able to download all of Morricone's music from Napster.

It was fun while it lasted. :(

I am in "The Commitments" camp.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I noticed a few people listing The Commitments, which is a nice soundtrack. The only problem I have with it is that I'd rather hear all the original versions of the songs instead of the remakes.
Enjoy every sandwich

Oh yes -- You've Got Mail.

Harry Nilsson - The Puppy Song Lyrics

Dreams are nothing more than wishes
And a wish's just a dream you wish to come true

If only I could have a puppy
I'd call myself so very lucky
Just to have some company
To share a cup of tea with me
I'd take my puppy everywhere
La la la la I wouldn't care
Then we'll stay away from crowds
With signs that say no dogs allowed
Oh we... I know he'd never bite me
We... I know he'd never bite me

If only I could have a friend
Who sticks with me until the end
And walk along beside the sea
To share a bit of moon with me
I'd take my friend most everywhere
La la la la I wouldn't care
And we'll stay away from crowds
With signs that say no friends allowed
Oh we...we'd be so happy to be...
We...we'd be so happy to be together

But dreams are nothing more than wishes
And a wish's just a dream you wish to come true
Dreams are nothing more than wishes
(Your wish will come true)
And a wish's just a dream (Your wish will come true)
You wish to come true (Your wish will come true)

For originals, I absolutely love the soundtrack to Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

That's the first one that popped into my head when I saw the thread! It was 4 bucks in the cutout bin--I guess the masses didn't get into it. Listening to Tony Jay makes you realize how thin Demi Moore's voice is.

Compilation soundtracks are fun, but kinda like cheating. I think I'd like Grosse Point Blank's if I saw what was on it.
