1. You can see the summit but you can't reach it
It's the last piece of the puzzle but you just can't make it fit
Doctor says you're cured but you still feel the pain
Aspirations in the clouds but your hopes go down the drain
No One Is To Blame - Howard Jones - ToLiveIsToFly
HJ had a few songs eventually, but I saw him in an early performance in the states where he was the opener for someone else (Thomas Dolby, IIRC). He played his big KROQ hit "What Is Love" a third of the way through (to a still-sparse crowd). Not having much of a repertoire, he played it
again either as the final song or the single encore song. This, mind you, was in the standard 30-35 minute opening set. I've been to countless concerts, and I've never seen anyone else do that.
2. He was dancin' with a train
They were all in love with dyin'
They were drinking from a fountain
That was pourin' like an avalanche comin' down the mountain
Pepper - Butthole Surfers - TBone or a cruel imposter
He ranted about the band name (and this song) just a week or two ago.
3. There's no return
Double helix in the sky tonight
Throw out the hardware
Let's do it right
Aja - Steely Dan - Bob78164
4. The Telex machine is kept so clean
And it types to a waiting world
And mother feels so shocked
Father's world is rocked
And their thoughts turn to their own little girl
I Don't Like Mondays - The Boomtown Rats - Fanny
I'm not sure what the history of "The Shithouse Rats" is, but I like this band. I would guess that anyone who doesn't probably has not listened to the "Tonic for the Troops" album.
5. I used to come home late and not a minute too soon
Barking like a dog, howling at the moon
You'd be mad as an ol' red hen
Up all night wonderin' where I been
- - Peacock
The third line makes this sound like a country song. I don't have much country music in my collection. Of all the BBs I have not yet matched, I think Pea may be more of a country music fan than others.
6. Now here you go again
You say you want your freedom
Well who am I to keep you down
Dreams - Fleetwood Mac - KillerTomato
His iPod selections mentioned during some of his LS games seemed to mostly be pure, classic, rock and roll songs, like this one.
7. have a secret to tell
From my electrical well
It's a simple message and
I'm leaving out the whistles and bells
Birdhouse In Your Soul - TMBG - starfish
8. But if I seem to be confused, I didn't mean to be with you
And when you said I scared you, well I guess you scared me too
But we got lucky once before and I don't want to close the door
And if you're somewhere out there passed out on the floor
Joey - Concrete Blonde - Clem
Joey the genius would be self-promoting and self-deluded enough to think Johnette is singing about him, but dumb enough to not realize that she's singing about a suicidal hopeless alcoholic.
9. Everybody wants respect, just a little bit
And everybody needs a chance once in a while
Everybody wants to be...
Closer to Free - BoDeans - Estonut
What the hell was wrong with my first 2 choices? I was really hoping for the first one.
10. Times have changed
Our kids are getting worse
They won't obey their parents
They just want to fart and curse!
Blame Canada - South Park Movie Soundtrack - megaaddict or an extremely cruel imposter (based on ma's avatar)
11. I come from the county Waterford,
Near the village of Tramore,
I’ve been living at home since I was one,
And now I’m forty-four!
Born To Be A Bachelor - Gaelic Storm - Marley
One of the most pleasant musical surprises from the first 2 "Ships and Dip" cruises (with Barenaked Ladies & Guster) was being exposed to Gaelic Storm and seeing them perform in various venues on a near nightly basis. These guys embody
Celtic ROCK.
12. Here's to the winners of the human race
Here's to the loosers in the game
(and the losers who paste without reading)
Heres to the soldiers of the bitter war
Here's to the wall that bears their name
Let the Day Begin - The Call - Carmelo Anthony
The first typo in this game that stuck out to me. And yes, I noticed "limousene" a few games ago, but I knew that lb would just say he pasted it as is. Interesting how the host is the only one not reading the lyrics.
13. I'm a lucky fella
And I've just got to tell her
That I love her endlessly
Dear Sprotsie - ES - Kay
14. I heard two men talking on the radio in a crossfire kind of new reality show
Uncovering the ways to plan the next big attack
well they were counting down the ways to stab the brotha in the be right back after this
I'm Not Such a Candypants - Jason Mraz - Sprots
15. He ain't got no distractions
Can't hear those buzzers and bells,
Don't see lights a flashin'
Plays by sense of smell.
Pinball Wizard - The Who/Rod Stewart/Elton John - DaveSenior
16. People around every corner
They seem to smile and say
We don't care what your name is boy
We'll never turn you away
Ferry Cross the Mersey - I Know the Frankie Goes to Hollywood version, but they covered someone else - Hotseat Or Bust
17. No mortal was meant to see such wonder
One look in the mirror told me so
Come darkness I'll see her again
Yes I'm gonna go 'cause now I know
- Blue Öyster Cult - Kroxquo
Some song on side 2 (yes, vinyl) of the Blue Öyster Cult album that starts with "Godzilla." I don't have this album but a buddy used to play it a lot.
18. I saw a tree-house on the outskirts of the farm
The power lines have floaters
So the airplanes won't get snagged
Bells are ringing through the town again
Children look up, all they hear is sky-blue, bells ringing
Driver 8 - R.E.M. - vandal
19. Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and trunk
(and agreement between a (1) thing and a list of 2 - bad grammar, not your typo)
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk
House of the Rising Sun - The Animals - PanicinDetroit
20. He once owned a Harley Davidson and a Triumph Bonneville.
Counted his friends in burned-out spark plugs
and prays that he always will.
Too Old to Rock 'N' Roll (Too Young to Die) - Jethro Tull - elwoodblues
JT put on a hell of a show in the 70s and 80s. When I last saw them in a small club in Santa Ana, Ian's voice was completely shot in the upper registers. He has adopted a technique where he points towards the ceiling when he's supposed to be hitting the high notes, as if to say "that's where my voice should be right now." It was such a shame to see that a once-great singer/entertainer had lost his voice.
21. I saw her today, I saw her face
It was the face I loved and I knew
I had to run away and get down on my knees and pray
That they'd go away
Needles and Pins - The Searchers/The Ramones - mini
Great series of LS, lb! It's a lot of work trying to solve them each day. I can't imagine the work involved in putting them together, especially when various themes come into play.
If you'd just compose the games using Word, you would have searchable copies in a single repository and you could try a feature called Spell-Check!
