I especially don't like when they set scary movies in my state, in houses 5 minutes from my office. Of course like a train wreck I'm drawn to the movie "Haunting in Connecticut". I researched it online and found the address of the house and drove by it to find out where it was. I also read lots of stories about how the story was not necessarily corroborated, and I really don't believe it's true, but the freak out factor of having it set in CT scares the crap out of me. It also makes me afraid of anyone who has ever lived in Southington (which includes half of my office) in case they were ever in the house. I bet they wouldn't admit it. Especially not to a neurotic freak like me!
I had the same reaction when The Amityville Horror came out in 1979. Since I was living on Long Island at time, I just had to check the place out.

I've seen a ghost too! In an old house in Newport, RI.

Where was yours?

Heck I saw one at Disney's California Adventure. He was at Millionaire PlayIt! And he was grumbling.

Was I? IIRC, I'd already gotten into the Hot Seat during the first show of the day, before you surprised me by showing up, so I thought it was a pretty good day. Aside from not winning the cruise...

Walking back and forth in my room. I sat up dazed in my bed and watched it for who knows how long....

It should be pointed out I was 10 years old and suffering from the only honest to God case of the flu I've ever had.... so my head was so messed up from being sick that it's pretty easy to explain it away.... still surprised it didn't affect me that much at that age.....

We have lots of ghost stories on the night crew as you can imagine (My mecca is even rumored to have been built on an old Indian burial ground... there are definitely lots of artifacts around), but I've been on nights longer than anyone else out there and have never seen anything... and that includes those fun Saturday nights of yore when there where only a handful of us locked in the store at night.....

I didn't find It horribly scary. I loved the book and had read it a couple times before the movie was made. I thought it was one of the most miscast movies I'd ever seen. The kids did a much better job with their roles than the adults.

CT in general has lots of ghost stories. Old cemeteries, old houses, lots of superstition and stuff.

Plus the "famous" ghost hunters Ed and Lorraine Warren live in CT. They came to Uconn every year and were probably scarier than most of the pictures they showed. Sorry, that's mean, and I just looked them up and found out he died in 2006, so now I feel even worse.

So I'm used to the stories. I've never seen a ghost. I don't really believe in haunted houses or cemeteries. I DO stay away from any of those places though, I got enough problems, I don't need a ghost following me around too!!!!
