Speaking of stoopid Giants....


I know this should not be a complaint, but it is.

There are four teams with byes: Giants, Panthers, Titans, Stillers.

There are four TV time slots the weekend of Jan. 10-11: Sat at 430 and 8, Sunday at 1 and 430. Of those four teams, which one has the largest TV market and national following, and should be in the 8 pm slot? The stoopid Giants, that's who. But which one did the TV or NFL pick? The Panthers.

I know, I should be happy to have a bye (I am, very) and to get the better TV slot (as a fan, I guess I am). But an 8 pm start means we have no chance to get much into the newspaper except a game story and 1-2 side items. Normally we do 4 pages of coverage, and now we have zero chance of that. We barely got the 8 pm game with Giants in the first edition AT ALL.

I can't imagine what they were thinking putting the 24th largest TV market on primetime when they could have had the top one.

I am also very glad we won't be hosting the Iggles in that game, no matter what. They are on fire. We've played the other three possibilities this season already.

Maybe the Iggles can take out the Giants for us and we could host the NFC title game.....no, I did not even think that. I am only thinking about the economic advantages.

I'm not sure why they picked Carolina to host the 8 PM game either...especially since a potential Iggles/Giants divisional game would be very compelling.

And Skoop- I live in Iggles' country and I can tell you you might not want to be wishing for a home NFCCG against the Eagles.

2003 wasn't all that long ago.

I might well have declined anyway -- watching Philadelphia teams in miserable weather is not my idea of fun, but given the schedule I had no decision to make. --Bob

BTW, Skoop, I just heard from a friend on a Steelers' board, where I put this same question, that they said on Mike Francesca's show on WFAN New York this morning that the Giants bitched their way out of the Saturday prime time game.

They said the Giants felt they've had way too many primetime games lately, and wanted Sunday at 1 PM very badly.

So that's why the Panthers got the Saturday night game, apparently
