jayhawker536 wrote:Oh, Eyegor, it's been almost 9 years since I first went to the BAM board.

In the beginning it was so much fun to converse with everyone and everyone was on their best behavior, will every but JamesBrianGriffin, lol.

I guess when you get a bunch of "A" type personalities together it's bound to happen. Although to be quite honest, I noticed a change many years ago. Right after the Jipterfest West in Vegas. Since I was not able to attend, I know not what happened. I've always respected the "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" motto, so I have not asked but have often wondered what went on that got so many upset. This is when I first noticed a change in the atmosphere on the board.

Then there was the squabble with TR, never knew exactly what that was about or what had so many upset, decided it was best to stay out of that also.

With each ensuing squabble it seems some fun leaves the board. I certainly do not post like I used to and this is one of the reasons. Heaven knows I have enough drama in my "real" life without going to the internet to find more.

I read these political post and just shake my head in bewilderment. Then I have to remind myself that I certainly did not act this badly when Dubya stole the presidency from Gore in 2000, I lived through the last 8 years of the Bush administration and somehow survived (although a lot did not). I'm certain that those whose candidates did not come out on top will not only survive but will get over their indignation of losing.

I'm not so certain this board will ever be the same.
I have heard some gossip and rumors about that trip - as it was before my time.

My take on it is that people have become real human beings (and started being that during that trip). We have seen each others flaws, we have become real, been around each other too long to keep up the facade of not having flaws.

We have become like family - family is not always fun - family has things that never got talked about and never got resolved and resentments build and things turn to crap.

People who really care about the friendships they started here will make sure things get resolved. People who don't care will either leave and be let to leave. It is the way of human beings.

Each of us nurture the relationahips that are important to us. The ones we don't nurture will decline.

There is a reason for the damned quotes around friends.

Since you have actually met me in person, Pea, I'm sure you know exactly what I mean. S.I. Hayakawa has been dead over 15 years.
Sorry, eyegor, I don't know exactly what you mean.

I also don't know what the comment about the Indian guy has to do with this conversation.

I got that you are disappointed in things some posters have said. That is really all I get.
You are close, and it is difficult to properly phrase the sentiments I currently feel. Probably just the weather. Sorry for trying to forcr you into being so precise.

As for the obtuse comment, the 'Indian guy' is Iron Eyes Cody, who is also dead. Hayakawa was a semanticist. He later in his life also served a term as Senator from California. I was referring to the semantics portion of his bio.

I think it would help if, before someone posted one of their little screeds, they would mentally substitute the phrase "people who" where the labels are going. So the term "liberal" becomes "people whose politics are to the left of mine" and "Obama supporters" become "people who voted for Obama" and various other phrases. Then they could think of actual people here who would fit into those categories, and maybe think twice about the wholesale bashing of entire groups because they consist of people. Who hang out here. And who have become like family to some of us.

There is a difference between being pro-McCain and being anti-Obama.

There is a difference between being conservative and anti-liberal.

There is a difference between being pro-choice and anti-life.

There is a difference between ribbing a public figure who is so much larger than life that she could be a cartoon character and jabbing a large percentage of your cohorts with a pointy stick on a regular basis so often that even wintergreen has to come out and say "knock it the fuck off" (much more politely than I ever could) not once, but twice.
Pretend you don't see me!

My "wow" reaction was more to the title of the post than the content. A title such as "I found this to be an interesting read" from that poster would have allowed me to move past it, knowing it was garbage.

A title proclaiming that people who disagree with my politics have a "Mental Disorder" is a whole new level of garbage. Why would you live in a country where you believe that 53% of the voting population has a mental disorder and that the folks will run the country for the next four years have a mental disorder?

This board is downright tame compared to some of the other boards I frequent.

This family is the Cleaver family compared to those boards- those boards are inhabited by Norman Bates' family!

I should let this pass, I'm not going to though. I did not behave slightly bad for 8 frickin' years, as you so sweetly phrased it. I did not comment one way or the other on Bush's supposed win back in 2000, 352 votes, hanging chads and Katherine Harris speaks volumes. Nor did I comment on T Boone's millions that went behind the smear campaign on Kerry in 2004. However I will comment on the jab towards Obama buying his presidency, that is just pure bull shit. The majority of his money came from less than $100 contributions from millions of fed up Americans. If McCain had the backing of all his millionaire friends he could have just as much money at his disposal, but they did have enough to outfit Palin now didn't they? The democrats did not outfit the Obamas. If the American people donate the money for campaigning, why shouldn't it be used for that purpose?

This all sounds like very sour grapes to me.

Oh, as far as getting over it, did I not say I survivored and I'm sure you will also. How about you getting over it.
