Re: This weeks rankings- Meisha! Meisha! Meisha! edition
I thought about making some sort of significant post for 10K, like bitching about the Great Halloween Scam, or the likelihood of an eighth season, but Meisha was spreading too much joy.
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

BFD (big f-in' deal). I'm richer that either one of you, and I didn't even have to inherit it or marry into it. There are only two people on this Bored richer than I am--Sam Walton and Colonel Sanders, and both of them are dead.Obscenely Rich Bastard wrote:Baby, I'm absolutely loaded. A similar story. We have this "waterway" which is all shiny and sparkly (pathetic compared to actual water, but, whatever) and upscale, blah blah blah. Around the Bellagio fountain area (small version) they installed a concrete sculpture of...a purse. On the bench. Which looked like it had tipped over, spilling contents. I haven't seen it, but it seems that last week or so someone, during a festival, stole the purse.SportsFan68 wrote:Nah, the "spilled" vase is supposed to be artful. NOT REALLY.
Gardeners, please don't send letters.
Thank you.
Yep. Ripped it right outta the concrete doings that secured it. And threw it into the waterway.
A purse sculpture.
Well, then

I must say, I'm very flattered by this thread's title, but I'll probably never be on the list. Not that I even really understand what the list is all about. Is there a contest for post counts? Other boards I've been on have banned members for purposely trying to boost post count.

LOL!
Would there be anyone left if we banned gratuitous posters?
You will probably not end up on this list anytime soon since the #100 poster has over 2700 career posts (The list counts all posting since Day One on the Bored, which is November 23, 1999)... but you need only get to 250 posts to appear on the expanded list which I post the last week of every month....
And you were an obvious choice for the edition title, which I pick each week to immortalize something that was going on at that time on the Bored. And as I said earlier.... it was certainly better than going with the Renegade edition!

I just reread the header, and now I'm curious:
I think it's pronounced My-ee-sha, but in the header it would work better as My-sha to more closely mimic Marcia. So which is it?

I think she told us it's MEE-SHA. I've always said MY-EE-SHA, and it's been stuck in my head so long, that's probably how I'll always say it like how I never pronouced ging or geoffil right....minimetoo26 wrote:I just reread the header, and now I'm curious:

I've been pronouncing it MEE-SHA, which is still close enough to Marcia to make this week's ranking title a stroke of inspired genius!littlebeast13 wrote:I think she told us it's MEE-SHA. BTW, since Meisha's so young and she said she didn't watch much television as a kid, I wonder if she's even aware of the Brady Bunch reference?

Of course, I hardly ever watched the Brady Bunch either since it was never on Nick at Nite in my youth, and don't ever remember actually seeing a "Marcia Marcia Marcia" moment. I had never heard the catchphrase until the Brady Bunch movie came out in the mid 90's....

It was the episode where Jan doesn't make the pom pon squad and has a little fit looking at the shelf in their room with all of Marcia's award and ribbons and whatnot (as I recall Marcia had even helped her with cheers). The she starts bitching about how Marcia gets picked for everything and wins this and that and is always the teacher's favourite and she's tired of always hearing "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!".
Then she writes an essay and she gets the highest combined score so she gets to accept an award and read it at the assembly. She checks the math and finds out the teacher made a mistake and has a crisis of conscience. Of course, she ends up pointing out the mistake (but not until she gets on the stage) and ends up getting an honesty award or somesuch.
We, the HK Brigade, do hereby salute you, Marley, for your steadfast devotion to ontopicosity. Well done, sir!

It was one of the Homer-Simpson-style jokes we were telling this summer. Like "I'm staying in Alaska and never going back to America" and "this could happen in Ohio but never in the United States." I had a pilot cracking up on one of those moving walkways when I was teasing the oh-so-literal Rain Man...littlebeast13 wrote:Are you calling Hawaii un-American!?!?
