This is a typical bored discussion. It started about the price of
fuel and ends up in an argument about fuel pumps.

It's only been a week. Have you already forgotten what arguments with Bob look like?kayrharris wrote:This is a typical bored discussion. It started about the price of

Re: $17
I have nothing to add but random comments. I can cause gas to go down at least a few cents a gallon simply by filling my tank. It will go down the following day. I got an email that claimed you can tell which side of a vehicle the gas tank lid is on by which side the hose is pictured on the little gas dispenser thingie on your fuel indicator. Hah! Not true. My Kia's gas cap is on the left and the hose thingie in the picture is on the right. Hah, I say.

Most (but not all) newer cars have a tiny little arrow head or pointer somewhere in the gas gauge area that points in the direction of the gas tank. Once I realized that, I make less of a fool of myself at airport gas stations with rental cars! I always would pick the wrong side...always!!!tlynn78 wrote:I have nothing to add but random comments. I usually fill up at Costco. It seems that most cars have the filler tube on the left, as the lines for the right side of the pumps are always longer. The pumps have extra-long hoses which reach around to filler tubes on the left side of cars on the left side of the pumps. I always use those lanes because the lines are shorter.sunflower wrote:Most (but not all) newer cars have a tiny little arrow head or pointer somewhere in the gas gauge area that points in the direction of the gas tank. One night, I went in just before closing and most of the lines were empty. In a d'oh moment, I pulled up on the left side of the pumps, as I always do, before realizing that the right sides were all empty, too.

Interesting. I thought this had been completely standardized.tlynn78 wrote:I have nothing to add but random comments. Wait. The hose? I don't think that's right. Typically there is an arrow pointing to the right or the left. I have never heard of using the hose on the little gas pump icon.
This is a typical gas gauge with the arrow. Notice that the arrow is on the opposite side of the hose.
And it's from a Kia.
That email is apparently an urban-legend.

Wow, I was so thrilled when I read this and couldn't believe that I had never noticed it before! I immediately had to go out to the garage and check it out but, sadly, I have no arrow on my pump (it's a Chevy Blazer).andrewjackson wrote:Interesting. My 67 Cougar had the gas hole behind the license plate and lots of late 50's car models (the Bel Air and the Coupe de Ville are two I remember specifically) had it behind a hinged tail lamp. Would those be down arrows?

I also think that the gas pump icon is just a standard design, because the one in the Kia picture AJ posted is just like the one in my GM. I'll have to take an instrumental panel survey at my Mom's house this weekend.

Coming home from the dentist, I noticed the gas at Kings was 1.99. When I went past a few hours later on the way to the post office, it was 1.94.tlynn78 wrote:I have nothing to add but random comments. If I didn't know better, I would have sworn that I'd stopped and filled up on the way home from the dentist.

Re: $17
I filled up the car and 3 cans of emergency gas for less than $35. It was at $1.85 then and has dropped on down to $1.79 now.
I felt the change
