Ody was glued to the inside of the pet carrier when I took them there. I had to pry him out with a crowbar to get him on the table....

It was some combination of the discussion of a heavy rainstorm and the avatar of ES in the aluminum fishing boat that made the honorable mentions list that caused the image of ES steering a gondola with Sprots in to to spring to mind. Fanny hounded me for weeks to draw it, but it finally took a morning when I knew I needed a new avatar, but had no current inspiration from any Bored or personal events to make a new one, that I finally placated her. Thank goodness I did.... this one's a masterpiece.
Yay! for La Sprotsie Bella! Although I don't think you had drawn ES fishing at SHM yet because Sprots was just talking about selling her aluminum boat when I started talking about Venice and gondoliers and whatnot. Then you drew Gone Fishin' and I chastised you for drawing the aluminium boat avatar instead of the gondola one that **I** wanted.

If you'd just accept from the get that Fanny is Always Right, things would go much smoother......ha!

Meanwhile, I know you're dying to know what my #1 is, since it didn't even make your honourables. I just have key words written down on a Post It, so I'll have to decipher my writing and post my Top 20 tomorrow. (Don't worry folks, mine will be like ripping off a bandaid because I just grouped them into 20, 10 and 5 and I think I have 10 or so that weren't mentioned, so too many to include all of the images.)

Your are a bad influence on my Annie. When we met her 5th grade teacher this year, the teacher said something about "5th graders know everything about the school by now". I replied, "Well, Annie tells me she knows everything", and Annie corrected me "No, Daddy, I said I'm always right". Now I know where she got it.

BTW, Annie turned 11 yesterday. Frightening on so many levels.
Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!

That'll be $10, please.

As promised, my top 20 (at least the first half, as I need to leave soon).

11-20 No particular order, other than I'll put the ones that were listed first, as I've already commented on them:

Knit Wits
Laker Socks
Itchy Business
Annie
Cool Matias

Patdown - I didn't even remember that this was in the honourables. What made this hit my top 20 was the look of cheesy, anticipatory glee in ES' smile....

Halloween - The other day I said that I thought Saucy Tossoff was the first one that didn't show ES' face, but I was wrong, this one doesn't either. Call me crazy, but I see a facial expression of innocence and "who, me" on the blank sheet with the spots.

Joker, Joker.... - I don't know why I liked this one so much, but I remember laughing out loud when it first appeared.

The Shining - ES on the Big Wheel was enough for this one to make the list....

Stately Harris Manor - There is usually one thing, quite often a little and seemingly insignificant thing, that puts an avatar over the top for me. On this one, it was the handkerchief on the stick that Hobo ES was toting.

After you mentioned it, I was going to look back and see how often I had put ES in an avatar where you couldn't see his face, but just went over my mental list. The only one I came up with was "Lampshade ES" from the olden days. Forgot about ES in the Charlie Brown costume.....

This was one I knew had to be on your list, because you commented to me how you could hear the "Joker... JOKER...... JOKER!!!" thing (Only replaced by es, ES, ES!!!)
FannytheBull wrote:The Shining - ES on the Big Wheel was enough for this one to make the list....

As much as I wanted to include this one, by the time I got to it in my avatar album, I realized it was hopeless to add any more to my first cut list that had no chance of actually surviving the second cut. It even has a funny story, because "The Chatting" was posted the day after I announced a contest for other BB's to come up with their own idea for the next day's ES avatar. I chose instead to be inspired the usual way and made Vandal the unintentional winner.....

And this one, of course, was inspired by the Mark John Boy incident! Wow.... was that really a year ago already????

Can't wait to see the Top 10........

It was exactly a year ago, as I was driving home from Auburn's bowl game when I got the good
news that John Mark was "moving in"....so to speak. :)

I hope we'll have the Top 5 before I wake up this evening. Even though I already know your #1, I'm sure there's still at least one in your Top 5 that didn't make my list. I still have one in mind that I figured had to be on your list which you have not revealed yet.....

As soon as I find my post it, you will be the first to know. (That's what delayed the Top 10, it wasn't a tease tactic.)

I not only found the post it, I found out why I couldn't find it. It was the last thing I wrote, so it was still attached to the sticky pad! I didn't even realize it until I went to write another note and found it on there. Duh........

Anyway

Top 5

Not surprising that 3 of my top 5 were already listed on the top 20. Very surprising that two of them (including #1 and a potential #1) were not only missing from the top 20, they weren't even on the also-ran list!

Already listed:

Jam Face
Crawlspace Fanny
La Sprotsie Bella

And, what everybody (and, by everybody, I mean lb) has anxiously been awaiting......

League Night

Image

Criminally overlooked. Okay, I realize that I'm a bit partial to it because of the subject matter and the Hello Kitty ball, but there are so many good things in this seemingly sparse and simple scene:

House shoes!
Feet lined up perfectly together behind the first set of dots in preparation for his approach.
Studied look of concentration/anxiety/snake eyed mysticism in anticipation of a strike
Hands up to the chin, elbows in, ready for the push off.

Had ES been sporting one of those pussified wrist braces, this might have taken my #1 spot......

And (drumroll)

#1 Avatar That I Can't Even Think of a Name For Other than Back of a Truck:

Image

I was quite impressed when this one made an appearance and I can't even remember whether or not there was a particular reason for it. Funny that somebody who pays so much attention to expression, details and form/spacing would choose a #1 that really isn't even about the art.

I don't even know if these portraits were drawn specifically for this avatar or just gleaned from the archives, and it doesn't even matter. I thought it was the idea itself that was the homerun on this one. But the portraits, sparse as they are, do have a charm all their own. Stripped down, no gimmicks or accesssories, just clean lines and good form.

Then again, I'm always fascinated by the transitional phases that those tri-strip adverts go through on the back of delivery trucks and basketball court scoreboards. I'm obviously easy to entertain.....

I steal the pad every time I'm in a hotel, so I have about 5 or 6 of them on my computer desk.... and I hate to tear a sheet off because I know I'll lose it, so I have all kinds of crap scrawled on the top sheet of a whole pile of pads....

This was one I had on my "I'll bet it's on Fanny's list but not mine" list, but not the one I figured would be here as I had another above it, and I'm a bit surprised it didn't make your list at all! But as I've said before, the details you notice about my drawings never ceases to captivate me.... and I don't daresay help me learn what to add into my future pictures, as it seems my best details are always the ones I don't even consider when I'm doing the drawing....

As I explained when you first leaked to me this was your #1, there was one simple reason I did not include this in the countdown despite the fact that I worked longer and harder on this avatar than any other I drew (even longer than it took to turn Rainbow Donkey into the Palmer statue)...... it barely drew a whimper from anyone when I debuted it (Other than Sprots whining that her and ES were 2/7 of the revolving sign). It either didn't impress anyone else, they kept their thoughts to themselves, or they couldn't see it since it apparently took several minutes for it to actually appear for some people. Anyway, I took it back down pretty quickly and left it to sit in the album of forgotten avatars.....
