All right, looks good. Two of the three unused answers go together, and the third is there for his name. You already (about six months ago) proposed the correct usage of one of the answers to be used a second time. One of the three names to be determined may be on the obscure side - he died about two years ago and was in the news then. (In fact, you could say he made a career of being in the news).

Earlier, the Smiler said that Jonathan Edwards was matched with someone else who was used a second time. That would indicate that Fox and Dershowitz are paired, and I'm guessing that Fox is the word: Hunter? Animal? Canine?

If Edwards is there for his name, there is an Edwards Pie company, which could lead to Pie Traynor.

Frank at one time tried to pair Warwick and Clarence as Dukes, but Clarence by himself is a Duke and that could link with David Duke, Doris Duke, Duke Ellington or Duke Snider.

Edwards could also be there for his first name, which is Jonathan, which could lead to an Apple like Fiona, possibly.

Not sure how Fox and Dershowitz could fit, though. Although Dershowitz was played in the movies by Ron Silver and Charlie Rich is the Silver Fox.... :)

This is Johnny Apple (which goes with Jonathan Edwards), an editor and writer at the New York Times, who was a frequent guest on Charlie Rose's TV show.

I now know how some of you must have felt tracking down some of the more obscure people in my puzzle.

Good! Two pairs to go. (And how many times has Argentina Apollo been on the Charlie Rose show?)

I watched Argentina Apollo wrestle. Argentina Apollo was a hero of mine. Johnny Apple is no Argentina Apollo.

And how many times was Johnny Apple ever on Championship Wrestling from Florida?

Okay. Since Jonathan Edwards went with an already-used person, that means that Terry Fox and Alan Dershowitz somehow go together in some form of FOX or TERRY is a X, and a person with X in their name goes with Alan Dershowitz. (I don't think it could be the reverse.)

And one of the persons who is already used once is also associated with somebody named HERB. That person has to be previously used for their name, because all people used twice are used in two different capacities. Herb Score, Herb Caen, Herb Albert, Herb Adderley, Herb Edelman, Herb Brooks.......

Johnny would have had Argentina for lunch. And given him a bad review.

I don't think Herb is right because ginger is more often thought of as a spice rather than an herb.

However, Clarence Thomas leads to Duke, and Duke Ellington could be associated with Billie Holiday (she performed with his orchestra and he wrote some songs for her). It's not a perfect match but since it already matches up people who were used previoulsy, that rascally old Smiler might have decided to use it here.

Ummmm... Billie Holliday was a connection, not an answer.

More specifically, ginger is a ROOT. Stephen Root was Jimmy James on News Radio and the voice of Bill on King of the Hill, among numerous other roles. Does that help any?

We're still missing one pairup with two of the already paired people. The general consensus of opinion is that we are looking for someone named Duke (as either a first or last name), Herb, or Root to be matched up with someone else who was already on the list based on their name (ie, Carmen MIRANDA).

Aha! ELIHU ROOT succeeded John Hay as Secretary of State!

That finishes it!

Excellent!

I'll be ready for the next Tangredi game whenever it's posted.

I've been working on my own Tangredi-style game for the last several weeks. Hopefully, it'll be ready to go by the time that we complete the next Tangredi game. :)

Finished! Now that wasn't so bad, was it?

I have a couple Tangredis and a whole bunch of answers but very few clues, so I'll get back at the end of the line.

Holy Schmoly, Grogan! What a great idea, and well executed, too. Looking back over the clues and answers, I am so p*ssed at myself for not figuring things out sooner. I was all around the edges on this one, and just couldn't quite put it all together.

Excellent notion and execution, sir!
