There's a legal saying "res ipsa loquitur," meaning "the thing speaks for itself." It has a specific meaning, but the general phrase is applicable here. There is no way to look at this video and come to any other conclusion than that Trump, through his exaggerated hand waving and body shaking, is attempting a crude and degrading impression of disabled people, whether Serge in particular or disabled people in general. And no matter how many times he does it or how many other crude, offensive, and degrading things he does to insult people, doesn't make this particular impression any less degrading or offensive. I have yet to see Flock, BiT, Esto, or any of the others apologizing for Trump in this thread offer another plausible interpretation of what Trump's gestures could mean.

The only reason ANYONE would even think of anything related to human disabilities when watching this video for the first time is because they've been led to that conclusion. No, what got Trump elected was getting an 8% majority among non-college educated voters while college-educated voters went for Clinton by 9%. That was enough to get him majorities in enough states to win the election despite getting three million fewer overall votes than Clinton.

For any adult to wave his arms around and jerk spasmodically in imitation of a disabled person is outrageous. That he should choose to mock an actual disabled person, even one who doesn't have that particular form of disability, is more outrageous. That he at the time was seeking and now has been elected as the President of the United States is even more outrageous.

Yes, there are a number of components to my being upset about Trump's behavior, but it's not a case of taking a lot of things that are innocent in and of themselves and stitching them together in support of a fictional narrative. That's a specialty of the Republicans.

Instead, they take actual or perceived character traits and exaggerate them to the point of ridiculousness. That's the difference between an actor portraying a well known real person and a night club impressionist imitating that same person. And if the trait you choose to exaggerate is a crippled hand, you might well decide to turn that into a person shaking with palsy, if you've got that particular mindset.

I see no such thing in that video.

However, in this video I clearly see and hear President Obama disparaging the efforts of those who participate in the Special Olympics by comparing his poor bowling skills to those who give their all in the Games, and should be praised, not mocked, by the President. No room for misinterpretation here.

And Obama apologized, repeatedly and profusely, before the episode even aired. But that wasn't enough for the Republicans like Sarah Palin who jumped all over his case, but have been strangely quiet about Trump, who has never come close to an apology. Trump doesn't apologize; he doubles down, knowing that he has enough "fake news" water carriers like you to back him up.
