And, sure enough, there is a novelist from Wyoming named Craig Johnson.

In this case, it was his actual middle name, not a nickname, and he was the poet laureate of South Dakota. (Charles) Badger Clark. Sarah Palin was a big fan, if that tells you anything. That would allow us to put Penny Marshall back in for Wisconsin, and the surname Johnson would come back in play, as well.
So unless there are some other wrong matches in there - which is always possible - here's what's left:
13. GILBERT STUART
18. MURRAY HAMILTON
39. KEITH DAVID
60. JOHNSON C. SMITH
78. SCOTT GLENN
88. LARRY CRAIG
And the states unaccounted for are Connecticut, Maryland, and Wyoming.
13 + 78 = STUART SCOTT, the late beloved anchor for ESPN, which is based in Bristol, CONNECTICUT
So....David Murray from Maryland?? Hamilton Keith???

Too bad we don't have an Eddie any more, because Steady Eddie Murray would have been a great Maryland match.mellytu74 wrote:Oh, my!!franktangredi wrote:I like it.mrkelley23 wrote:I kind of hate to do this, but can you believe there is another person in history who was referred to by the name "Badger?" I'm surprised no one got this. He writes the Longmire novels.franktangredi wrote:And, sure enough, there is a novelist from Wyoming named Craig Johnson.
You are going to have to look at a couple of your earlier answers to finish this.

Back when we were talking Senators, Jarnon came up with Howard Baker for Tennessee.mellytu74 wrote:How much earlier?silverscreenselect wrote:I'm surprised no one got this. He writes the Longmire novels.franktangredi wrote:And, sure enough, there is a novelist from Wyoming named Craig Johnson.

I'm not sure that isn't right, even if we aren't talking about Senators.
I am also not sure of my Brian Kelly (Indiana) and Terry Baker (Oregon) matches. Which is what got me thinking about Howard Baker.

But I think Howard Dean for Vermont and Nathan Bedford Forrest for Tennessee are pretty solid.mellytu74 wrote:Back when we were talking Senators, Jarnon came up with Howard Baker for Tennessee.mellytu74 wrote:How much earlier?silverscreenselect wrote:

Excellent! And an excellent puzzle, SSS.
I expect to have my next game ready to go later this week. It's a lyrics game, for those who need a fix.

Re: SSS Puzzle
I enjoyed this one (other than my major screwup with Sherwood Anderson). I wanted the challenge of coming up with that many reversible names for one puzzle and I hope that there weren't too many obscure ones. I'm glad everyone enjoyed this one.franktangredi wrote:Excellent! And an excellent puzzle, SSS.
