My mom didn't have a middle name (but everyone botched Marianne into Mary Anne anyway, so it was sorta like having a middle name), and her confirmation name was also Veronica.fantine33 wrote: The recent turn of the thread is very funny. My given middle name is..........
You guessed it, Lynn! But it was just kind of placeholder until I got a confirmation name (it's an IRC thing, you wouldn't understand.).
But she hated it and wouldn't use it. I think she didn't like Veronica Lake or something...

I loved Veronica Lake! That was one of the reasons that I took Veronica. Going by the saints themselves I was torn between Veronica and Cecilia, and that tipped the scale. I also used to rock the Veronica Lake hair, but that's another story.minimetoo26 wrote:My mom didn't have a middle name (but everyone botched Marianne into Mary Anne anyway, so it was sorta like having a middle name), and her confirmation name was also Veronica.fantine33 wrote: The recent turn of the thread is very funny. My first choice was actually Dymphna, but that was shot down.

That poll was several years ago, maybe all the 50's-70's Lynns have given our people a surge ahead.peacock2121 wrote:But..... I wanted to win!!!!fantine33 wrote:They did this at one time. Someone should.
I wanna win something.
Don't worry, some Google Hound will let us know. Unless they've thrown up their hands and given up on this thread already.

I really like the name Veronica (and the Elvis Costello song). We thought about it for Maddie, but it didn't have a good "short" name. (I don't like Ronnie...)minimetoo26 wrote:My mom didn't have a middle name (but everyone botched Marianne into Mary Anne anyway, so it was sorta like having a middle name), and her confirmation name was also Veronica.fantine33 wrote: The recent turn of the thread is very funny. I loved it when a Veronica song finally came out, especially since I like Elvis Costello. But it's so sad and the content reminds me of my Grandma, so it makes me cry.PlacentiaSoccerMom wrote:I really like the name Veronica (and the Elvis Costello song). I tried to start going by Veronica, but the Ronnie thing put the kibosh on it. I think my family did the Ronnie thing on purpose just so I'd give up, but everybody else was just presumptuous and annoying.

I like the explanation as to why Ann(e), Marie, and Lynn probably are so popular as middle names.

Mine was one grandmother's middle name. My first name is the other grandmother's middle name. It was not a throwaway, like that website said.Appa23 wrote:

If they'd used my grandmother's first names, I'd be Gladys Hazel. Glaze is not so bad, I guess.

I always felt kind of sorry for my grandmothers. Maternal was #12 of 13, and got saddled with Hazel Fanny. Paternal was 3rd girl and was Elva Ferol. She always hated Elva, and went by Ferol. When my aunt was born in 1925, grandma named her Elva Jean. Go figure.

My middle name is the same as my father's first name.
That would be Alvin. And no, that name is not used too much by me.
My dad did go by three names, Alvin, Al and Big Al.
I guess we did the usual middle name thing for our daughters:
Jennifer Lynne (notice the correct spelling Pea
)
Elizabeth Anne
The middle names are names of two of Margaret's sisters.
Margaret's mother was 1 of six children (3 girls and 3 boys) and they all had 3 letter first names. We were "just this close" to naming our first daughter after Margaret's mother and her two sisters. I still like it but our daughter still thanks us for not doing it.

Maddie really likes the name Eleanor, because of the Beatles song and the Turtles song, and I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up with a granddaughter someday named Eleanor.
If she has children.

Big J has two middles, one for his dad, and the other is a family tradition of his dad's family, that used to be of german demi nobility, so were Von's, but dropped that during the Boer war when they esca...emmigrated to Canada, but now all the males in the family get Vaughn as one of their names.

I like the name Vaughn, as well. My hub insisted on 'normal' names for the boys. He was, in his opinion, cursed with an unusual name, and didn't want his boys to suffer the indignity. He named the first boy: Michaelryan Kirchner Halpin - people consistently want to make it Michael Ryan - it's not; I named number 2 Andrew William; and 3 was a joint project; Alan James. All three middle names have family connections; Kirchner is m-i-l's maiden name; Williams abound on both sides' family trees and James I thought went well with Alan, and happens to be the name of one of my bros.Vaughn was on my list of first names for boys....but hubby didn't like it. My family had a wonderful family friend named Vaughn

Oh, Lordy--I'm sitting right beside my m-i-l's family tree. The Kirschner family. Any chance they dropped an "s" along the way? From Rimpar or Hamburg, Germany?....tlynn78 wrote:I like the name Vaughn, as well. My hub insisted on 'normal' names for the boys. But...but....you pick your own Confirmation name! Why would she pick a name she didn't like? I like Veronica -- that's the name of my Mom's best friend, who is my sister Rosemary's Godmother.and her confirmation name was also Veronica.
But she hated it and wouldn't use it. I think she didn't like Veronica Lake or something...
Mine is Helene. I dunno why. I liked it better than plain old Helen, & I couldn't very well use Eileen since it was already my sister's first name! Now she has a sort of off-the-wall middle name: Majella.
After this guy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Gerard_Majella
The St. Gerard Majella Church was near our house, and my Dad liked the name. We have never met anyone else named Majella.
I like Vaughn -- but then, I should considering our last name! Good thing we never had a son -- we might have been tempted to name him Vaughn DeVaughn! Nah, we wouldn't do that to a poor little kidI like the name Vaughn, as well. My hub insisted on 'normal' names for the boys. Michaelryan sort of reminds me of John-Angelo. Karen wanted to give her son a name "sort of like Michaelangelo" -- but with John instead! BTW -- 2 months old today & weighing in at well over 13 lb!

You don't know my husband ... normal is relative (just not any of MY relatives)Your husband thought the Michaelryan combination was a "normal" name
Prolly not related - Kirchner means church-goer in Deutsch, and with an 's' it's about cherries, isn't it? Anyhoo, all that fam damily is from der Schwatzwald, Bad Kissingen.Oh, Lordy--I'm sitting right beside my m-i-l's family tree. The Kirschner family. Any chance they dropped an "s" along the way?
