Susan Sarandon + Sean Penn (I AM SAM) = Dead Man Walking

John Wayne (Fort APache) was in The Quiet Man with Maureen O'Hara.

Gary Cooper (High Noon) was in Man of the West with Julie London.

Candy Clark did The Man Who Fell to Earth with David Bowie.

Vera Miles was in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance with John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart. Now this poses a bit of a problem. Wayne actually shot Liberty Valance but Stewart gained the reputation for doing so and was often referred to by people in the movie as "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance." So, this actually could match with either actor depending upon Frank's interpretation.

Just goes to show how much we've missed your games...um...I mean, how much we've missed YOU, Frank! Yeah, it's YOU we've missed.

;-)

(OK, I'll admit it...I missed both you and your puzzles!)

And I'm spent unless I start IMDb-ing....so I'll wait a couple of hours or more before stooping that low.

Elisabeth Shue and Kevin Bacon (DINER) were in THE HOLLOW MAN.

I know Bette Davis was in the film version of THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER - who was played the critic who breaks his leg, arm, I forget which?

Monty Wooley, but that was already gotten (as was my The Man Who Wasn't There a little while ago.

It's Monty Wooley who was in Since You Went Away.

Gloria Stuart + Claude Rains (Here Comes Mr. Jordan) = the Invisible Man

Sue Lyon goes with George C Scott for Flim Flam Man.

I will bet the Francoise Dorleac goes with Jean Paul Belmondo (Breathless). (Frank, you cosmopolitan, you).

Do we have Betsy Palmer + Paul Muni (Emile Zola) = the Last Angry Man yet? We do now.

Where's our Lon Chaney Jr. film to go with maria Ouspenskya and The Wolf Man?

I don't have time to consolidate now but I will later.

I'm in awe of all of you, especially melly! Kudos!

Okay, I've started shamelessly imdb-ing, but I'll try to keep spoilage to a minimum.

The spoiler below identifies incorrect presumptions in my recap above, but doesn't give away any answers.
Spoiler
None of our actresses appeared in The Man from the Diner's Club or The Birdman of Alcatraz.
This is a bigger spoiler. It matches up the three unmatched actor-MAN-actress combos with the correct B list movie. There is at least one that some of you savants will probably kick yourselves for not getting, so give it one more try before clicking!
Spoiler
B-12. THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST: David Bowie=The Man Who Fell to Earth, with Candy Clark
B-18. WINTERSET: Edward Ellis=The Thin Man, with Myrna Loy
B-20. DISTURBING BEHAVIOR: Steve Railsback=The Stunt Man, with Barbara Hershey

Okay, I think I've got them all, proving nothing but my ability to use imdb. I only had to resort to looking up the actress's filmography for the last one I had left. Her actor had already been used for a different MAN movie, so I hadn't bothered looking up his films.

Using the actual contents of my brain, the maximum I could possibly have gotten is about six.

There is just one remaining error among the answers already submitted:
Spoiler
Burt Lancaster isn't the right Judgment at Nuremberg actor.
Here are the movies and actresses that I used twice:
Spoiler
Fort Apache
High Noon
Boogie Nights
Midnight Cowboy

Bette Davis
Kim Basinger
Sissy Spacek
Wendy Hiller

This assumes John Wayne, and not Jimmy Stewart, shot Liberty Valance.

There is at least one other possibility: Keenan Wynn, who was in Neptune's Daughter, appeared with Dorothy Malone in the (apparently) obscure 1975 film The Man Who Would Not Die. He got top billing, but there is scant information available for this movie, so I can't confirm that his is the title role.

Not exactly on topic, but I"m sure this will be of interest to Frank.

Burke's Law will be coming out on DVD in April, when the first half of the first season will be released. It's from VCI Home Entertainment, which specializes in public domain titles. However, they usually are able to get access to good master prints and they do a very good job of restoring the titles they put out, so the audio and video quality on this should be very good.

Also for any other fans of vintage TV, the first season of The Invaders is coming out in May. That's from Paramount, so it will be a standard release, but again, I'm expecting very good quality.

Quick and no doubt sloppy President's Day a.m. consolidation.

We spent the weekend cleaning out TLAF's house so my leisure time was scare. We're going back up there shortly.

I will do a real consolidation with numbers and letter when I come back.

Thanks to plasticene for a very nice cleanup. (Complete clues after the matches).

Is there an Alec Guinness movie to give us Joan Greenwood + The Man in the White Suit - or did I miss that?

As far as I can tell -- and this really is a drive-by -- these actresses haven't been used yet. The list of movies comes from plasticene

While mistakenly trying to place Faye Dunaway in a Superman movie (she was in SuperGIRL), this one jumped out at me and said "Duh!"

That's the actress I had to look up, since he had already been used for a different actress in a different movie. I don't think it was necessary to hide that answer in a spoiler, since it's a bona fide independent contribution, as opposed to the result of a blatant imdb search.

NOON CONSOLIDATION – February 20, 2008, 11:46 a.m.

This will be my last appearance until well into the evening. So, I will make any changes/corrections later tonight.

Game #114 -- Ladies Night at the Bijou

Identify the 50 actresses in List A and the 50 movies in List B. (Every other clue is a quotation.) Then, pair each actress with a movie according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself. Four of the actors and four of the movies will be used twice apiece.

Clues remaining

A-12. JANET BLAIR
A-14. TERRY MOORE
A-20. LUPE VELEZ
A-22. LOIS NETTLETON
A-25. EVE ARDEN

B-21. 12 ANGRY MEN
B-22. MIDNIGHT EXPRESS
B-27. 42ND STREET
B-38 JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBURG
B-39. OVERBOARD
B-40. NEPTUNE”S DAUGHTER
B-45. THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES
B-46. BABY BOOM

Used twice

Bette Davis
Kim Basinger

High Noon
Midnight Cowboy
All of Me
Boogie Nights
Fort Apache

NOW, since Frank said only four movies are used twice, I am thinking that maybe we don’t need the Kim Basinger/Burt Reynolds match.

We need High Noon twice for Cooper & Lon Chaney
We need Midnight Cowboy twice for Dunaway and Keller
We need All of Me twice for Kathleen Turner and Sissy Spacek.
We need Fort Apache twice to match with Vera Miles and Maureen O’Hara (or Shenandoah twice if you believe the legend :D).

Matches (actress + actor from B list = MAN in title.

A-26 Britt Ekland + Christopher Lee (B-7 The Two Towers) = The Man With The Golden Gun
