The 2012 ES Avatar Countdown!

And now, for Fanny and anyone else who may care.... here is my Top 20 based solely on my personal likings. This list was made up with even less time and thought than what went into the official countdown, so don't read too much into it.....

"Official" ranking in parentheses...


1. Hurricane Sandy (2) - like I said, the best avatar I have ever drawn.

2. Mangy Harry (5) - The gun trick makes this a winner with me, and I knew it was an immediate contender for a very high spot.

3. The Unusual Suspects (6) - Shoulda put this one higher in the real countdown... it was the perfect combination of clever and cute.

4. Field of Broken Dreams (HM) - Of course my Hooly tribute avatar is going to rate high.

5. The Scream (1) - A masterpiece, even without all the response that put it on top.

6. The Miseducation of Angel Squirrel (4) - Can it be we've now gone two straight years without a solo Angel in the Top 20? At least she can still get there with a little help.

7. esPhone (7) - I can pat myself on the back until I'm black and blue for coming up with this one...

8. Pamper Me (8) - Sometimes throwing too many characters into an avatar ruins it, and sometimes it makes it even better. This was definitely a case of the latter.

9. Loving Her Was Queasier (HM) - I ment it when I said the expressions and body language in this one some of the best in any of my avatars.

10. The Unicorn Wrangler (3) - Maybe my blog's comic strip has burnt me out a bit on both Erin and Rainbow Donkey to not have this one way up in my personal list, but it's still Top 10 material.

11. Clem's Proposal (10) - Four characters, four different emotions. This is an amazingly simple yet beautiful avatar.

12. Rainbow Bronco (12) - Still love the thick black bordering in this one and stylized Rainbow Donkey.

13. The Poolboy (11) - Perfect combination of characters for this scene, and they each play their role well.

14. Spear Carrier (17) - Colorful and busy, but that's why I love this one.

15. Supermecca (18) - Oh, ghost! I really do love you to bits! Have a sticker.

16. So What (12) - I'm not sure this one would have made my list had Fanny not asked for it to be re-created for my shop. It made me appreciate how perfect Lil's expression and body language is in the original.

17. Deliquescing Sprots (13) - Puddle-meltingly adorable.

18. The Bib (HM) - ES's "oh shit, I'm in trouble now" expression after making such a mess is priceless.

19. She's Back (DNC)



Well, maybe she isn't. But I still like this one because it captured the attitude I always envisioned with Jessie's cougar character.

20. No! Ick! (HM) - A visual treat and dead on the money with how Sprots treats ES.
