Wedding Blog: The Big Day (part 6)

#1 Post by gsabc » Tue Sep 02, 2008 11:15 am

Immediately post-ceremony:

Glass thoroughly stomped, the happy couple and then the rest of us headed back to the bridal suite. We were supposed to go outside for photos while the guests ate their way through the appetizers. It was still raining, so we tried to wait it out. Meanwhile, the rabbi came in for the ketubah signing. I believe those photos are in the group, along with one of the ketubah itself.

Food arrived. Water, champagne, someone to take orders for different forms of alcohol, and a tray of each of our chosen hors d'oeuvres, including the now infamous mini-cheeseburgers with tangy tomato dipping sauce. The cheeseburgers were essentially small sliders, and quite tasty. I regret to say that I forgot to try the tangy tomato dipping sauce (Gotta love that phrase!). I really wanted to see if it was just ketchup, or even just ketchup with one or two additives to spice it up. Maybe a relative will have their child's wedding there and I can try it then.

All the food was good. My mother was impressed with the checkerboard layout of the cheeses. It was just orange and white cheddar cheeses, but cut into uniform pieces about ½"x½"x1", stood on end and alternating in color in a block maybe 10" square. There were also some different cheeses alongside it. I took one that looked like a caraway type and snarfed it. Wrong. It was jalapeno cheese. I had missed the telltale little red inclusion. I promptly choked upon hitting the unexpected spice and sputtered for the next five minutes. Went back for more, though.

I have a fun photo of the room. The bride and bridesmaids all eating along one side of the room. About five feet away sits the groom, leaning forward elbows on knees, staring off into space. "OMG, what have I done?" seems to be the caption.

The rain had slackened considerably by the time we had gotten something into our stomachs. Were we willing to try for the outdoor photos, the photographers asked? Yes we were. BD really wanted them. We were up for anything, to the admiration of the photographers. And so we trooped out to our waiting chariots. Golf carts to take us through the golf course (this was a country club, after all) and to a stone bridge that led over one of the water hazards. First, though, they dried off the seats. A big wet stain on the groom's seat would have led to all sorts of odd conjecture.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

I certainly hope so. This epic blog will never be complete without a detailed review of the tangy tomato dipping sauce!
