the MVP award away from Albert Pujols this year?
Although I almost wish he doesn't win it, based on the years-after performance of some of the people in the mix the last several years:
Ryan Howard -- leads the majors in HRs, but alos leads in Ks and is hitting .230
Jimmy Rollins -- Steals lots of bases, but definitely a down year for him stats-wise
Andrew Jones -- Don't even need to say anything
Derrek Lee -- Still a helluva player, but not the offensive threat he was a couple of years ago.
Meanwhile, Pujols continues to hit around .350, hit 30 HRs, drive in 100+, play creditable if not stellar defense, and be the only player on his team that no one wants to pitch to.
He has developed a little chip on his shoulder that gives him an attitude sometimes that I don't like, but I'm not sure I wouldn't react the same way, given the circumstances.

I remember when it used to be a rare sight to see Pujols strike out. His pitch selection the last couple of years has regressed, though he still has that Vladesque ability to hit bad pitches hard if he can make contact with them....
I wonder how many voters will get caught up in the monster season my boy Ludwick is having and vote him higher than Pujols on their ballots. Pujols' contribution is steady, but without Ludwick's breakout year, the Cardinals are already completely out of the playoff picture (Not that they aren't doomed already, but they'd be a lot closer to .500).
While nobody has emerged as a favorite yet, I almost hate to say it, but the one guy who has had the biggest impact on his team's playoff chances has been none other than CC Sabathia. His key to the success Milwaukee has had since his arrival is that CC's keeping the Brewers overly flammable bullpen in the bullpen and off the mound. If the Cardinals had a CC Sabathia, they'd be right up there with the Cubs now.....
I cringe at the idea of ever voting for a starting pitcher as MVP, but right now, he'd seriously get my vote.....

I agree with CC, He has been simply Amazing. As for King Albert (love the royalty referance...he is also the uncle of one of my former players) Man is simply a great....
Here's the argument what constitutes Most Valuable Player, it has turned into a poularity contest for players on winning teams. With the Cards taking a dive his chances are limited. However, there is a player who was the only man ever to have double digits in every category and not make an All Star Team who deserves consideration. Lets look at the comparison and start to sing my favorite song:
Jose Reyes
Games AB R Hits 2b 3b HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG
2008 New York Mets 134 581 98 178 33 17 13 56 284 56 66 46 12 0.366 0.489 0.306
8.803030303
Albert Puljos
2008 St. Louis Cardinals 123 440 83 160 36 0 29 89 283 87 47 6 2 0.468 0.643 0.364
9.361702128
Totals 11 141 15 18 -3 17 -16 -33 1 -31 19 40 10 -0.102 -0.154 -0.058
He is what makes the Mets Go.....And has risen his average 20 points since the break. Beltran,Delgado and Wright do not have the numbers without my boy. Leads the league in Hits and is top 10 in multiple categories. The differance between the two is arguable, on your other point ALbert has only struck out 1 out of 10 times (47) Phenominal considering how much he is pitched around and with Ryan Howard will K 5 times more....Makes me sick
Alas if we only had a bullpen this would not be a race.....
